Bettman loving it! When are you all going to wake up and see this?

An interesting story in The Athletic about the NHL’s pending proposed concussion settlement for 318 former players that amounts to about a one-time $22,000 payout to each player plus a capped $75,000 health expense. Players that sign give ownership of their medical data to the NHL.

Bet man is awake and aware of the situation. They do not want to acknowledge it because ofvthe liability they should really face to cover what could be lifetime of expenses for some very devestating injuries inflicted while playing the game

The mental gymnastics Hawks fans go thru to beat the dead horse. Not you

Bottom line, Joki got turnstiled 1 on 1. What Gus did or did not do had no effect on that.

But hey...next we will hear a story of how Gus ate most of Jokis breakfast and that is why he was outmuscled on the 2nd goal.

That bastage ate his Wheaties!?!? I'll kill him!

So, the board thinks the young goalie was ruined because he was "thrown to the wolves".

The board also thinks the young defenseman isn't being developed right because he's not been thrown into the deep end right away.

Interesting.

Favorite Kane moment for me has to be the 2010 Cup winner.
For a couple seconds, he was the ONLY person that even knew!!

I honestly remember watching that play as it developed and thinking WTF is he doing? After watching it in replay many times, the things that stand out are: (1) one other Hawk in the slot saw it immediately and raised his stick — don’t think anyone noticed him; (2) the look on Toews face as the celebration started on the other end before they made the announcement about the goal — he looked like he wanted to celebrate but he looked back to center ice to see what if it was real; (3) the look at the backup goalie on the philly bench when it looked like he was asking the guy next to him something like “did that go in”.

Magic moment, but I personally felt cheated because I didn’t get that instantaneous rush seeing the puck going in. It was sort of a delayed reaction as a fan. Fortunately the boys made up for it in 13 and 15. For 13 we were in a hotel suite in Waikiki around 5:00 in the afternoon nervously watching the game and first seeing Bick’s goal and then 17 seconds later, Bolland’s.

The Flyers on the ice looked a bit confused to me.

This fan reaction video never gets old to me....

Watching the bruins - ranger game. Really violent collision on Rask — looked much worse than the one on Crawford.

Haven’t heard a single “soft serve” story and been regaled by the announcers about their friend or family. Very professional broadcast. And sober.

I really like Edzo, Foley I'm on the fence with.

I went to a Buffalo Wild Wings (on La Grange in Frankfort) with my dad, youngest nephew, and grandfather for one of their signings before the hawks and caps WC game. My nephew drew a picture of the rink with the guys from both teams on it, with to Pat and Headzo on it. I think that's what Savard calls him.

Edzo took the picture, smiled, and said thank you. How would you like to be on tv? My nephew's eyes opened wide and nodded his head. Okay, young man, give me your first and last name. He did. Edzo said watch the next game, stressing to my dad, make sure you watch the next game.

He did, in the 3rd. Shout out to my nephew. Edzo said, he gave us a beautiful drawing of the WC and we want to say thank you. Foley said, maybe he can telestrate with us up here. Edzo laughed and said get that young fella a box of crayons.

Supposedly pushed into him by McAvoy. Maybe shoving or checking guys into your own goalie to prevent a goal has always been a thing, but it needs to stop now that guys are moving at 40+ mph. Too risky. Call a penalty on the team doing the checking/shoving if the goalie is toppled in his crease/net.

There was no “supposedly pushed” about it - contact was 100 percent bruins defender’s fault. No one on the bruins even got in the rangers face.

if this is correct...it sounds like extortion and a real bad deal for the players: signing over medical records to your employer....bettman and the nhl elite can go (frank) themselves

That was exactly the response Carcillo and others had. It smacks of the "pay you to go away and we'll admit no wrongdoing" you used to see with the tobacco industries and others.

If the NHL and the players really care about preventing long-term damage (too often starting at an early age), there has to be some way to adapt the rules to the current speed of the game. Not that rules are always followed in the heat of the moment, especially when instincts and muscle memory kick in, but you could start teaching it at lower levels.

The velocity of the hits, the immovable boards, and the armor the players are wearing make the too many hits too risky. Saw some study that they were 4-5x more dangerous than football hits.

No surprise, but they officially announced a concussion for Rask. Wishing him a speedier/easier recovery than Crow.

Gus marches to his own drummer out there. I just hope the drummer leads that idiot out of town - very soon. Can't win in the NHL with a player like him.
- RickJ

Marches to his own drummer. Sucks. Call it what you want. He is only useful as a PP, 12-14 minute guy at best.

Somebody will want that for the playoff run, even if he can't defend to save his life. I think back to what Boston gave up for Kaberle, for instance. Not that I expect that kind of return, of course, but they should get something.

Yep. Science says this is real. A concussion is a traumatic brain injury. The NHL knows it and is doing its best to keep it as quiet as they can. The signing over of the medical records to the NHL would be part of the settlement. Really (frank)ing over the players.

It’s at the heart of most of these things. Take our settlement now under judicial seal and we admit no liability.....or sue us and you will be in court forever against our lawyers. Something is very, very wrong with a legal system that allows this.

Don’t like that it happened....but this one was completely unintentional. Agreed that there’s not much you can do to eliminate this. Think this was the same ranger player that undressed one of the hawks defenseman on Thursday in a very similar play.

The speed of today’s game is the result of the players being bigger and stronger than in the past. Yes, the boards are unforgiving, but the only option would be to somehow build some give into them, which then changes how the puck deflects and rebounds. Think the only realistic solution is eliminating some of the armor and replacing it with more padding and less plastic or whatever the hard stuff they use is.

Crow is skating again. I thought he was done....

If he is able to play, do you think we could try to move him to a contender? He has 1 year left on his contract and we could always retain since we will be in the dumpster for another year (I assume).

To EDM for Jesse and a 2nd? Or is that to steep?

I feel like this is a similar situation that we were in when we overpaid for Timm. I guess it worked out for us though...
