My story about Kane doesn't have to do with his hockey accolades, which I do have a lot of fond memories of, but rather about the naming of my son.

The year was 2015, and my wife was pregnant, and the Hawks were on their way to winning another cup. We are driving in the car one day trying to think of some boy names. I had become a hockey fanatic by now, so of course I am trying to think of hockey player names that would make a good baby name. I finally think of Kane, because not only is he my favorite player, but Kane is a nice strong name. I bring it up to her thinking that she is just going to immediately shoot it down, but to my surprise she mulls it over for a minute, and then says "a nice strong name, I like it!"

Now, a week before the due date, the allegations about Kane come out. My wife is asking me whether we should change the name. But, we had already told so many people and had gotten some gifts with his name on it. I tell her, "Hell no, we aren't changing the name. I don't believe any of this BS, and even if he is convicted, I will never believe it!"

So my sons name is still Kane, and luckily the allegations were completely unfounded.

I say he plays his whole career with Chicago, and retires as the Best Blackhawk player ever.

Dude Mitchell is a sophmore and a stud. Nominated for the Hobey Baker already as a Sophmore...NO WAY does he stay all 4 years just to be a UFA....he's going to play some games in Chicago this Spring when NCAA season ends...book it!

I said it before, but I expect the same. Keith has a lot of pull for the kid.

Powers hasn't heard the rumor about Mitchell staying, he should know more soon. Hope we can see the kid soon.

- ObeseOprah

I was watching that game on TV last Saturday (I think) between Denver and Omaha and I heard the announcer say Mitchell plans to stay all 4 years at Denver. I don't know if the announcer is a solid source of info or full of beans - but that's what he said in the middle of the broadcast.

I am older than the poster who named his son "Kane". (Great name BTW)!!!
But my son is named "Jeremy". Born in the 90's. Betting y'all can guess why....
Wife wouldn't go with a first name "Larmer"....lol.

I absolutely love Patrick Kane and he is my all time favorite Blackhawk (replacing Jeremy Roenick). It blows my mind that a team with Kane can find itself in last place for the entire NHL.

Best Kane moment - short handed goal against Nashville in 2010 when Hossa was in the box with a major. Without that goal their chances of making it out of Nashville drop dramatically. In my mind, that goal kicked off the magical 6 year run they went on.

Also, that goal makes Kane about ~%100 scoring rate on the PK, maybe they need to try him there more often!

And if the Hawks keep losing games they will be in the running for the "Next Kane" - Jack Hughes...

This season is all but lost, the Hawks best bet for the Hawks moving forward is to cross their fingers, hope they finish at the bottom and get Hughes. There is no better mentor in the league for Hughes than Kane.

This team has an extremely bright future, sure complain about defense now but in a couple of years the Hawks will have some real studs on the back-end, not only that but the Hawks forward prospects aren't too shabby, and if the Hawks find themselves with Jack Hughes, this team could be very similar to the 2009-10++ teams, perhaps even better... I mean there is no better player in the league to "mentor" Hughes than Kane. Both are similar players in every aspect of the game..

Either way I understand why younger Hawks fans are pissed and panicking - they've never seen an awful Blackhawks team, lol.... Well, this team may be awful - but it does have a future.... I've been watching the Hawks since the 1984-85 season, so I have seen a lot of hockey over the years, lots of rebuilds, lots of era's - and my "non-homer" opinion is that this team will be back to contending within 3 years. However the only problem with that window is that Keith, Seabrook and Toews will be 3 years older by the time the Hawks are back into contention. Although I hate to say it, I think trading Keith while he could still reap the Hawks a significant return (given his contract) would be a good idea, especially since the Hawks have several legitimate stud defensemen in Boqvist, Jokiharju, Beaudin, Hillman and Gustafsson... Where does Keith (or Seabrook for that matter) 2-4 years down the road, what #5 defenseman, Seabrook probably #7.... So if I were Bowman I would trade Keith, get some top picks and top prospects, try to tank, land another stud at the draft (hopefully Hughes) and continue to improve, and the only way to do that is to get these kids professional experience, and when they're ready get them in the NHL. The only "core" player I would keep at this point beyond Kane obviously is Toews, I see Toews playing the role Bryan Trottier played for the Penguins on the Hawks for the next generation - an experienced 3rd line center that knows how to win.

Also, this man-to-man nonsense Colton is playing is nonsense, that strategy doesn't work with the type of players the Hawks have. The Hawks skilled players are too old to be playing that nonsense and the youngsters aren't skilled enough or don't have the experience to play man-to-man.... To be honest firing Q was a mistake, it wasn't his fault he didn't have the talent to win games and Colton hasn't done any better... The Hawks are in the position they're in for 2 reasons - Bowman made some bad deals (some good ones recently) and the Salary Cap..

So beyond my assessment of Kane, Hughes the Hawks and their future - I have one question.

At this point in Kanes career, who has been the better player for this franchise; Patrick Kane or Denis Savard? ... Has Kane overtaken Savard's legacy to this franchise? is he in Mikita territory yet?

Be it our luck Stanbo would package Jack with Seabs for a 7th rounder and cap space.

Perlini got hurt. Others was line juggling and double shifting.
- I Am The Breadman

Was Perlini hurt by that 34 year old has been who was running our players last night?

The guy I was watching with last night (not a Hawks fan) was wondering out loud why this team is allowing that to happen without any kind of payback. I was watching the Oilers a couple of nights ago when McDavid took a lesser hit. Several of his team mates responded like rabid dogs.

I know I will be attacked by the pacifists on this board but I am tired of these tough guy wannabees salivating when they see this soft lineup. Perlini this time -Kane next time?

Toews got run by McLeod when he didn’t even have possession of the puck..Perlini got hit by McQuaid and it was not a dirty hit. Perlini was just nonchalant (per usual) and got finished hard into the boards without bracing himself.

(MORE) AWARDS & ACHIEVEMENTS
339 Career goals
3rd (and soon to be 2nd) on All-time Assist Leaders on Blackhawks
5th All-time in GWG by a US Player (as of Dec 2018 - 8 more to first)
12 straight seasons with 20+ goals (rare achievement)
1st, 2nd, or 3rd star of the month in NHL too many times to count
7th US-born player with 300+ Goals & 500+ Assists
(and because the NHL stats page is so worthless, I can't easily find the others)

And, a new section for the resume (albeit it one ripe with trolling opportunities, so just don't):

COMMUNITY RELATIONS
* Runs summer mentoring program for Blackhawks rookies
* Giver away of at least one puck per game to a child in the stands
* Main draw for the Special Olympics charity hockey game and the Chicago Professional Hockey League
* Regular visitor to Lurie Children's Hospital to brighten days of children with serious illnesses and their families

Kane should retire a Blackhawk if that is his wish (it is mine).

The sad part is we seem to be entering another high-scoring era in the NHL and that might water down his otherwise incredible statistics in the history books. We know what we saw and how hard it was for him to rack up those numbers in his era. Reminds me of Maris and his 61*.

- pdx2ord

My daughter was one of them. I took her to a game in Nashville, and he flipped a puck to me while I was holding her.
Kane was her favorite player, and the rest of the day she went up to everyone wearing a Hawk's sweater to tell them "Patrick" gave me this puck.

I won't attack you, nor will I attack the wannabees doing their job. Some coaches are of the opinion that this still works. It most certainly did. Hawks didn't do much after receiving their rude welcome.

You cannot trade a talent / game changer / production driver / superstar like Kane and get anything approaching value back. No team is going to give you so much back that it devastates their future with Kane - and that’s the only return you would accept.

It’s never happened.

You only move Kane if you don’t think you’ll be able to rebuild into a contender quickly enough to capitalize on Kane’s remaining career.

If Stan thinks that - get rid of Stan today - he’s definitely not the GM you want / need.

- StLBravesFan

Exactly correct.

Best player in a trade would be Kane. Any player you receive in exchange going to be as good as Kane? No. Then you cannot trade him. Even should Chicago become a perennial playoff team without Kane, they will never have the difference maker that Kane is.

We need two good offensive lines and we need some size but more importantly more grit and a boards effective player in our top six. Don't get this one or two type players, then even should a lot of the prospects work out well.......still the team will be spinning its wheels and not getting much farther

I do not know how anyone cannot see this.

And moreover, last I heard only the top six are in the top tier of prospects in the 2019 Entry Draft. Difference makers take you farther

Sure some nice players found later in round one but they will become more complimentary than superstar.

Accidental hit into the boards. Guy finished his check, not McLeod, and Perlini lowered his head and fell awkwardly. He wasn't bracing for the hit.

Jurco didn't work out, but that's essentially the kind ion trades they were able to make at that point in time. Taking a gamble on a former highly rated player for a third to see if a new environment gave him a new lease on life.
