I never said anything about nor compared this season to the tank years. So get right out of here with that crap.
Advanced stats are for anal-retentive wankers who use them as a metric to defend mediocre teams.
Stop putting words into my mouth. - BeadyEyedDouche
You're calling me a homer. The eye test and the advanced stats say the Sabres played a really nice game last night that they should have won. Some rookie mistakes - notably from Pilut - did them in. poop happens, but this isn't a bottom-10 team like you said |

where did I say we need a rash decision? I've been VERY clear that I wouldn't trade any first rounders we currently have. and building this right is a lot harder when your picking 10-20 than it is when your picking 1-5.... He's going to have to find more skinner deals, or sign a guy. - gordong
He needs to sign the right guy, though, that's what I'm saying.
Yeah, it's harder, but we've had how many top 10 picks in the last 5-6 years? Where has that gotten us so far? He needs to draft well, period.
Boston does it right, every year. So did Detroit. Teams can be built with picks 10-20. And they can be built with second and third rounders, too (Lucic, Marchand, Bergeron, Krejci). |

the record since the streak stopped says otherwise right now... I have no idea what this team is right now... one night they play the 2nd best team in the NHL (points wise) really well and the next they lose because nobody back checks.... What are we??? we play Tampa hard then we blow chucks in Edmonton...
MY TAKE:
a one line team offensively with an 18 year old superstar in the making on defense and a couple other guys we can use.... will we finish bottom 10 probably not, will we make the playoffs, I don't think so. |

No offense, but this is a broken record.
We all know this. Botts knows this. It's going to take more than one off-season to complete this roster, and YOU know this.
It sucks. 8 years out of the playoffs. But allow the man to build this thing RIGHT. A rash decision isn't what this (I hate this word) process needs right now. - Powerslave
Hence why he isn’t making a panic move to make the playoffs this year. Making the playoffs is nice and all but not at the expense of going through another couple years of bs. |

I don't disagree with anything you said... Not sure why you think Im saying something different. Im just not 100% sold on Botts yet, Maybe I should say not 100% sold on OUR scouting department yet. Im in a show me period with both. |

I think you're right on. They need a nudge from within the organization or from without. It's not a bad team though. It's mediocre at worst, and mediocre can make the playoffs |

Exactly. It'll be disappointing when (if) we don't make the playoffs this year, but we've taken a big step forward (especially considering the CRAP we have on our roster), and Botts will hopefully weed some more of them out at the deadline and this summer. |

I guess you're coming across like he NEEDS to do something now, at least that's what I'm taking from it.
I get it. He's in a tough spot. Many fans in this city have had enough and can't understand (not you) that to build it right takes time.
Any idea how many scouts are holdovers from the Murray era? |

yeah they can, just like they could go on another winning streak... I think a small shake up could do wonders for this team, maybe that is why management hasn't done anything....
based on the year so far I think the plan is to be sellers at the trade deadline unless the team we have right now plays well enough top be in serious contention for a playoff spot. if not we will sell off some pieces gather some more player/ picks and attack in the off season again. |

I have no idea, I know he brought some in from Pittsburgh though... and I think I remember he replaced the head scout and moved some guy around. Too early to tell if what he's done is good enough.... (that why choosing the wrong guy can really screw up a franchise it take so long before you know for sure if the scouting is good or not)
Im hopeful.... UPL and LAAKSONEN, SAMUELSSON look like they could be guys.
I just hope the next round of players looks better still (seeing as we could have 3 1st round picks) |

Last year
"The reshaping of the Sabres' hockey department has continued throughout the summer, including the expected overhaul of the scouting staff.
General Manager Jason Botterill has made double-digit changes to his scouting department since taking over in May. At present, there are three scouting heads/directors, two coordinators, three professional scouts and 11 amateur scouts.
The Sabres announced in July that Ryan Jankowski would serve as director of amateur scouting, while Jeff Crisp would assume the role of assistant director of amateur scouting after being head amateur scout.
Jerry Forton has been named head of collegiate scouting after serving as assistant director of scouting. Graham Beamish (pro scouting coordinator) and Austin Dunne (amateur scouting coordinator) have retained their respective roles, according to the Sabres' staff directory.
The pro scouting staff consists of holdover John Van Boxmeer, the former Sabres defenseman and assistant coach, and newcomers Jeremiah Crowe and Mark Mowers." |

I know what you're saying. They ALL look good, until they don't.
Development is SO important.
I picked the year 2012 randomly and these were our top 10 prospects:
Armia
Kassian
Pysyk
McNabb
Foligno
Catenacci
Tropp
Gauthier-Leduc
Brennan
Schiestel
Woof! To your point, they need to hit on a couple of these mid-rounders just as much as they need to hit on EVERY 1st rounder. |

Well, that's promising (maybe 😂). At least most of it isn't the same old guys drafting the same old crap |

I called you a homer so you put words into my mouth?
Remove that 10 game win streak and we are 14-18-6 for 34 points.
Even pro-rated, that makes us a bottom 5 team.
We will finish bottom-10 at this rate. |

They weren't drafted in the same year, that was Baker's top 10 prospects for that year. Either way, that's a barf-a-rama |

#Sabres prospect Oskari Laaksonen left today's Liiga game after having his wrist cut by a skate. Fortunately, he will only need stitches according to the broadcast. The injury could have been a lot worse. |
