If what I’m saying is so ridiculous then in the offseason why did the players in the ESPN players poll predict the Sabres as the sleeper playoff team ? Why did one anonomnus vet say he thinks they will be the best team in the league in 5 years time ? Lehner is 10-1 with a .957% save percentage. NHL 19 couldn’t even make that up. Just like how Buffalo came back to Earth after their winning streak, the Isles will to. And no, I’m not jealous of your first round playoff exit just like I wasn’t 3 out of the past 5 years.
- Pegullaville

You’re quoting ESPN players polls now? You win the “sleeper playoff pick” for 2018/2019 award(?) and some an anonymous vet said you guys would be good some day. That’s awesome good to keep your expectations high.

Yeah Lehner is great. He’s everything this thread said he would be when Murray traded a first for him. I was wrong about him glad he stopped partying. Let’s not forget Greiss he has been fantastic also shutting out the caps yesterday. I don’t understand why that somehow proves the islanders aren’t that great? Aren’t they part of the team? You're not jealous of a “first round exit” yet you and I both know if you even made the playoffs you would be banging your chest like you just won a cup. Stop fooling yourself you aren't fooling anyone else.

Islanders may implode and not even make the playoffs or take a step back but if you watched them play shutting down opposing teams it would be a pretty monumental collapse. It could happen though. That’s hockey. Also, we won a round. When was the last time the team you’re a fan of did that? Make the playoffs even? But, but, they’re still better... That’s what you say and what you imagine unfortunately to this point there’s nothing to back that up. Then the old well we will be better in five years. Unfortunately you were saying that five years ago and here we are again. Yeah I know. They’re better just because.

Most of us absolutely destroyed Murray for making that trade. Very little thought Lehner was great. And he wasn’t great here.

I’m happy he turned his life around and is atop his game. It’s a good story.

But the way the Isles are winning is unsustainable.

They are shooting at an incredibly high % and getting ridiculously great save %. Both eventually will regress. I mean, didn’t you guys score 3 goals on just 5 shots in the first against Jersey?

Not exactly

I liked Lehner 2 years ago, last season he was a complete mess

Unlike some though I am happy for him that he got his life in order and got another chance and is playing well.

He isn't as good as his last 12 game stretch but I am sure you already knew that.

But I don't think he is a bad goalie.

Because we’re inferior. That’s usually why opposing teams fans talk about other teams. They usually discuss the bad ones.

Come on. I blasted Murray for that trade. You weren’t happy about it from what I remember but as for the rest of the thread that’s not even close to accurate.
Did you watch that game? They absolutely dominated jersey just like the caps yesterday for two periods. You wouldn’t be saying they got “lucky” if you had seen the game it was far from luck. Completely shut them down like they did to Tampa last week. I’m not saying they’ll sustain anything that’s not how this all started but Trotz turned a team that allowed a historic amount of goals last season to a team that leads the league in GA in a half season. That’s a stat the James Tanners of the world like to forget. It’s not Lehner and Greiss stopping 60 shots a night though they’re playing great don’t get me wrong they’re huge contributors. They play a structured team defense. Can teams figure that out and can they regress? Sure who knows but it’s not like this is some new found thing Trotz has been instilling this since the beginning of the season. Most teams take a step back at some point we have a couple times this season the team just didn’t let it turn into more than a few games. Maybe your team will get their crap back together? That’s hockey.

Of course. They lost two or three games in their last 14 I think? They’re not the Lightning I’m not saying they’re a contender.

As long as he’s not popping pills and washing it down with booze he’ll be good imo. He’s also had it easier this season in a defensive sense. If we resign him which I think we should I hope his contract reflects the risk that comes with signing him. He may go somewhere else and take more money then we’re willing to give for that reason I would think.

Just sit back and watch the show man thats all I'll say. 2 years from now if you want to come back here and admit you were wrong thats fine, if not I'll be more then happy to go over to the Isles blog. The Sabres are set up for better long term success then the Isles. You have a top notch coach and a damn good player in Barzal but I take the Sabres roster hands down. I even take Vancouver's roster over yours over the course of the next 10 years. Have a nice day.

Tavares really liked the long term future of the Isles thats why he jumped ship right ?

I would say he is an above average goaltender (when sober)

However Trotz has done a great job helping his goaltenders out, Lehner is in a much better system for his style than he was last year that's for sure.

You could argue Barzal is close to Eichel, outside of that they have nothing remotely close to Dahlin.

I’d take our roster over every other teams just to have Eichel/Dahlin.

Lehner needed to change his life, and he did. He also needed a fresh start. I'm happy for him. Last year he was just a train wreck, and I don't think it was the right plan for him to turn it around here, especially at his $4m qualifying offer. His body language was terrible last year.
