Just sit back and watch the show man thats all I'll say. 2 years from now if you want to come back here and admit you were wrong thats fine, if not I'll be more then happy to go over to the Isles blog. The Sabres are set up for better long term success then the Isles. You have a top notch coach and a damn good player in Barzal but I take the Sabres roster hands down. I even take Vancouver's roster over yours over the course of the next 10 years. Have a nice day.

Ok. Let’s stay on topic remember how this started. I wanted to say Congratulations on winning the “ESPN sleeper playoff player pick award” for 2018-2019 that’s what most fans hope for every season from their team. I also hope that anonymous player that said you would be good some day is right. That’s huge. I wish you the best you have a good day too enjoy your weekend.

You could argue Barzal is close to Eichel, outside of that they have nothing remotely close to Dahlin.

I’d take our roster over every other teams just to have Eichel/Dahlin.

- sbroads24

Well that’s insane but ok.

You’re quoting ESPN players polls now? You win the “sleeper playoff pick” for 2018/2019 award(?) and some an anonymous vet said you guys would be good some day. That’s awesome good to keep your expectations high.

Yeah Lehner is great. He’s everything this thread said he would be when Murray traded a first for him. I was wrong about him glad he stopped partying. Let’s not forget Greiss he has been fantastic also shutting out the caps yesterday. I don’t understand why that somehow proves the islanders aren’t that great? Aren’t they part of the team? You're not jealous of a “first round exit” yet you and I both know if you even made the playoffs you would be banging your chest like you just won a cup. Stop fooling yourself you aren't fooling anyone else.

Islanders may implode and not even make the playoffs or take a step back but if you watched them play shutting down opposing teams it would be a pretty monumental collapse. It could happen though. That’s hockey. Also, we won a round. When was the last time the team you’re a fan of did that? Make the playoffs even? But, but, they’re still better... That’s what you say and what you imagine unfortunately to this point there’s nothing to back that up. Then the old well we will be better in five years. Unfortunately you were saying that five years ago and here we are again. Yeah I know. They’re better just because.

To quote one of my favorite bands, "It's not a party if it happens every night." The guy has addiction issues. He needed a change of scenery to clean it up.

Trotz is a hell of a coach and I'm sure he's bringing out the best in the players

I would say he is an above average goaltender (when sober)

However Trotz has done a great job helping his goaltenders out, Lehner is in a much better system for his style than he was last year that's for sure.

- Stripes77

Absolutely and I think Mitch Korn has done a ton for both Greiss and him. Trotz and Korn were Lou’s best two moves this offseason. The rest of his moves though they’re working out I was honestly not a fan of but i can’t argue with them now.

Nah, Dahlin will be a top 1-3 D man in the NHL and Eichel is already a top 10 center.

I wouldn’t trade that combo for literally anything in the league

Yep. We were lucky enough to benefit from that timing. Hopefully he stays clean and I mean that for himself. Don’t know him enough as a person to like the guy but I like what he has done for us so far.

So I’m going to ask you a question and whatever your answer is I swear it ends there😂

So you wouldn’t trade Eichel for McDavid, Matthews, Tavares, MacKinnon, anyone? Dahlin I can see with his potential. I would trade our entire first line and Pulock for McDavid 😂

Enjoy being the Eastern Conference version of the St. Louis Blues of the past 5-10 years. Good enough to make the playoffs but not good enough to have anything to show for it.

I’m going to ask a question to you and I swear it ends there, did you not comprehend the part about the combination of Eichel/Dahlin?

How many other teams can ice a top 10 center and top 3 D man?

That’s potential top 3 d man. He’s not even close to there yet. Eichel is also playing great this year but until the Sabres get over the hump of even making the playoffs it’s all for naught. Who knows maybe this year there’s still time for them to get it together.

As far as comprehending what you were saying I honestly didn’t get the gist of your post initially. I couldn’t think of an equal trade from another team for both of them off the top of my head. A lot of talent there.

Considering Lee will be 29 at the start of next season and Bailey will be 30 I hope Lou has a plan to bring home the cup in 2-3 years before you guys become obsolete two years after becoming relevant. Isles will get to waste the career of Barzal just like they did with Tavares. Are we even sure Lee resigns ? Watch out for the mumbo jumbo Islanders everyone. But yea the "inferior" Sabres with two top 10 players in the league by that time should be scared.

I’m known as a Sabre pessimist, but I’d be shocked if Dahlin isn’t a annual Norris contender. His numbers suggest he’s a top pairing defender already at 18. The kid is insane.

The rest of the roster needs a ton of work, but I honestly can’t think of a better combination of building blocks that are both so young in the NHL

Ummm

He is probably close to top 10/top 15 right now

He is 22nd in defensemen scoring and is averaging almost a full minute and a half less ice time than anyone above him in scoring.

His advanced stats are off the charts let alone for an 18 year old.

Of course not. Who knows? Maybe he has some childhood dream to play with another team? I would say he most likely does I doubt they would’ve anointed him as captain if they didn’t have an inkling they could get it done. Also, this started because you and another poster said the islanders and Montreal were inferior to the Sabres and I questioned it. It wasn’t due to me calling the Sabres an inferior team. Also, we have plenty of talent in the pipe line at forward and defense as I stated earlier one of the best in the league btw according to NHL writers so the future is far from bleak. One part I agree with is Tavares. Garth Snow wasted his time here and surrounded him with horrible coaches. Those coaches and Snow are gone now though it’s in the past.

I don’t disagree. Great building blocks just have to surround them with the right players now. Skinner may be one of them.

He has all the makings of an elite defenseman. He was one of the most highly touted defensive prospects in a very long time. Not debating that but he’s not there yet imo to call him top 3. 22nd in scoring doesn’t scream that to me and that’s how the Norris works these days. He will most likely get there I agree. Ultimately all of these players are evaluated on their playoff performance(not the Norris of course)when it comes down to it. There’s no debating he can be one of if not the best defenseman in the league but he’s not there yet.

Sabres have the start of a good team building towards a much better team, with a very solid young and talented core in Eichel, Skinner (when, not IF he signs), Mitts, Tage, Dahlin, Risto...yah, I included Tage...he is growing on me quickly!
They have some good support in McCabe, Pilut, even Bogo (if he doesn't get injured, he brings physicality/toughness and protection) Larsson, even ERod (terrific 4th liner who can play up as a fill in) and Ullmark.
Decent prospects for role players in Smith, Asplund, Oloffson, Malone, Guhle waiting their final baking period to come to an end.
And more prospects coming up Davidsson, Samuelsson, Laaksonen, Borgen, Pekar, Lukkonen that look very solid.
Who knows what prospects will work out in the NHL and where/what role they fill...but we should see several graduate to the big club over the course of the next couple seasons.

That said, they need more immediate help at the
- 2C - to push Mitts down and let him develop
- 2D, Rh- to push Risto down and reduce his TOI to be more effective

That my story, and I'm sticking to it...
Until next post....hmmmm---dirty martinis with green olives!!!

Marble Madness! Master Blaster was also great. I hated Mario 2, it creeped me out. Ripoff Tetris, I mean Dr Mario was cool too. Mega Man 5, Castlevania, Zelda and Link in the gold cartridges.
