Well Ferland is a UFA at year end making $1.75 mln this year.
And the Leafs have over $5 mln in cap space this year, and could place Horton on LTIR.
So, you're dumb? - poopstash
Ferland is looking for 5 mil at 6-7 years.
Leafs need defence with their cap space.
So, you’re dumb?

In his defense, i think he was pointing out the Leafs could trade for Ferland at or before the deadline with the cap space they currently enjoy.

So if these rumours are true (Hamilton and Ferland) why did Carolina make that trade with Calgary? Plus the trade of Skinner can't figure out what they are doing there. |

Yes, the Leafs have the cap space for him, but next year they will not! |

They will be all in this year so he will most likely be a true rental only. Would be a very good pick up for the leafs - sandpaper kind of player that can actually play - our Tom Wilson type for the run |

It's actually Claude Giroux to the HABS for Danault and a 1st rounder. Claude is tired of wasting his prime away on flailing Philly. |

Rumor is the Leafs are offering Matthews for Ferland. Leafs might need to throw in a draft pick to make it happen. |

Carolina admitted they wouldn’t be able to/want to resign Skinner so better to move him for something than lose him for nothing.
The Hamilton availability is because (according to guys like Elliot Freidman) he has the highest trade value. Trading him means they are admitting the trade to get him was not good (and everyone knows it) and they badly need the scoring that they lost in Lindholm and Skinner.
The only reason to also deal Ferland is if he wants too much money right now/Carolina just can’t afford him with their budget.
Once he starts playing better, Leafs trade Nylander and a prospect for Pesce and Ferland(UFA). |

In all seriousness, the Canes might have been better to just keep Skinner and let him walk. If he was getting close to the production in Carolina that he is in Buffalo, they would be a playoff team |

I doubt that they would have kept him regardless... Seems like Dundon wants players that perform at Skinner's level, but are paid at Girgensons level. |

Why would he waive his NMC to go to Montreal then? Wouldn't he want to win? |

This is all almost entirely wrong.
Skinner wanted out.
Hamilton has been fine, the Hurricanes are just trying to get the best forward possible and will deal any RHD to get him.
Ferland is asking for an outrageous contract to not go to UFA, so the Canes will likely trade him to avoid losing him for nothing. They brought in Nino to fill a similar role for a more reasonable price than Ferland is asking for. (Plus the bonus of getting rid of Rask.)
