Wouldn't say him making the fancy play is the problem. He hasn't had the confidence to even try to hold the puck lately so that's a change. Whether that's for the better or not remains to be seen.

Well he does tend to fall on his ass at least once a game but his skating isn’t on a McDavid level but it’s not bad

He was very clearly off balance and had his arms almost fully extended just to have the puck. No chance he gets a shot with any sort of power on it there.

In a situation like that when you're in the high slot after a turnover, every shot is a good shot. He had a step on the defender to start, but decided to give them time to get back and calm down. It's just a dumb play. I haven't seen him make it often or anything so I'm not concerned it's a habit, but that's the kind of play one makes when they're forcing themselves to "have confidence".
