At this moment I want one long term contract over 5 years EP40. I don't believe in long term contracts and I wish the hell GMs and Owners would make 5 years the max. Too many teams get (frank)ed over with 6, 7, and 8 year deals

It would make them Free Agents quicker and then they could ask for more money

I didn't believe this team was a bottom 5 team. I didn't project where they would finish. I picked them to get 79 points and then raised it to 81 points after the first 4 games.

79 could be bottom 5... no?

Very possible. I don't know how the rest of the league was going to do. Last season that would have been 10th I believe.

The vast majority of posters believed this was a bottom 5 team at the beginning of the season, yourself included.
Only Rueby, Nighty, Lordy and Telly were saying this was a bubble team during preseason.

I had us picking around 10th and finishing around 20-21. Being in a WC spot now with Pettersson coming back is just a bonus. You have to give the team credit they are not giving up and hanging in there. I'm sticking with the fact that we technically are not a PO team but Pettersson might have something to say about that interestingly enough.

I knew we were a better team 5/5 this (with Sedins gone) year and that 'should' have technically translated to a few more wins in regulation and it has. I just felt we had the ability to improve 5 spots this season and another 5 spots up next season when Hughes is here.

If they can maintain what is happening now that is so great for the fans.

What happens after next year then? If Van is picking around 10th this year, can't expect the 10oa pick to make a legit impact after 1 year. Rebuild stalled.

Yes and there is room to keep building. Another skilled winger or 2 and a couple more top 4 D men. I know there are prospects in those positions on the farm or drafted but not all of them are going to make it or reach their potential. It would be an added bonus if they can pick in the top 10 this draft.

So 3-4 more players found in the top 10 with 2-3 years of development for each. By the time Van is competing for a cup, half the guys in here will be dead.

No team should be tanking this year to get a top pick. My thought is this is a Yakupov type draft. You can get a nice player throughout the first round but I don't see any special players.

You need a really strong scouting staff to know who to draft throughout , it does not need to be top 10

I have no doubt we need more throughout the Canuck roster but we are getting there. Canucks have a young team and their players will get better .

Pettersson has been a godsend.

I remember when I made him a low franchise player in nhl19 and was told that that was way too high.... now i'm laughing, to myself mostly.

It is what it is when a team moves from the bottom 5 to this position. We have had Boeser-Pettersson-Hughes in three successive seasons we are well on our way. Call it luck on Pettersson but I think Benning knew exactly what he was doing with that pick. We are just going to have to make the best of it going forward.

2019 apparently is a weak draft, outside the top few picks, 2020 is supposed to be a good one...

Canucks should move Tanev for a 2020 1st at the deadline, and a 2019 7th rounder

Absolutely. Move Edler as well. I am a proponent of moving both as I feel we will be fine without them moving forward just like we were without the Sedins here. I've seen enough of OJ to know that he's gonna be fine and we have Hughes stepping in next year. Fill your needs on the rest.
