That is not what I said. - Marwood
I know you didn't . I meant for anyone on here (Lefty) who thinks the team needs another top 5 pick. We just need to keep our picks , they don't need to be top 5

It is what it is when a team moves from the bottom 5 to this position. We have had Boeser-Pettersson-Hughes in three successive seasons we are well on our way. Call it luck on Pettersson but I think Benning knew exactly what he was doing with that pick. We are just going to have to make the best of it going forward. - LordHumungous

Canucks should move Tanev for a 2020 1st at the deadline, and a 2019 7th rounder - kaptaan
How do you move Tanev in 2020 when they are competing for a playoff spot maybe?
Lord Humus has us projected to move up another 5 spots. That puts Van in a playoff position. |

2019 apparently is a weak draft, outside the top few picks, 2020 is supposed to be a good one... - kaptaan
They say this a lot about the current draft vs the next one |

There was a select few who thought the Sedin's needed to be here for another year. They are also the same people that thought this team (unless they tank hard) was going to be a bottom 5 team. As you can see wrong on both accounts. - manvanfan
I laugh how people in here get mocked for prematurely declaring in December that this team has improved over last season yet their summer and preseason predictions of worse team in the league are off limits to mockery. Media has these poor sheep by the balls and they dont even know it.

The vast majority of posters believed this was a bottom 5 team at the beginning of the season, yourself included.
Only Rueby, Nighty, Lordy and Telly were saying this was a bubble team during preseason. - Pres.cup

I also think with a healthier roster last season, we may have reached bubble status... so, on the bubble of being a bubble team. I didnt predict that though... just a reflection on what we had. |

Horvat's injury hurt last season also Tanev missing 40 some odd games.
Sedin's point production was a question but EP has almost replaced one of them already, half way through the season. Some usable JB signings have picked up the slack from some of the players that weren't so great last season. |

The Tampa Bay Lightning have seen their hit numbers skyrocket this season as the team has 200 more hits than they did at this point last season and much of that credit can go to the play of rookie defenseman Erik Cernak. The 21-year-old already has 91 hits this season as his play has only made the Lightning even tougher on the ice.
Looks like Tampa Bay is getting tougher for the playoffs. |

Thanks Carol
I've taken it upon myself to inform rueby that he's been replaced as head cheerleader.
I admit this team is not as bad as I thought it would be, unfortunately for the long term success of the franchise, it's a paper dragon.
The signing of beagle helped us weather the injury storm and will result in vantel being right about us drafting between 10 and 15.
Unfortunately, this will be beagles best season as a canuck and by the time we're an actual contending team he'll be an Eriksson size bust.
I still don't get the idea that building from the bottom of the roster is better then building from the top, you win with stars, not bums.
Hopefully they can unload gagner to some sucker and trade Sutter for a 2nd before next season begins as his role is redundant with beagle. Ideally they can trade beagle with a 6th rounder next deadline for a 7th to avoid his production falloff.
While some disagree, having hughes and Karlsson as an offensive pairing would teach Hughes alot about playing and would be a dominant offensive force for years.
I also panarin and would grab my ankles to sign him to play on our top line.
It's not going to happen but if we had a high pick this year and signed those two players, we'd be an instant contender while still maintaining future prospect depth and talent.
TLDR: beagle and Sutter are redundant, trade one. Sign allstar talent, not over the hill "champions" to retirement contracts. - Pres.cup

Kind of a generalized statement, so did you predict exactly how this season would play out. I certainly didn’t envision the team would be where the are sitting, but I believe most fans thought the same. I was going with a bottom 5 pick others a bottom 10 pick.
And this isn’t about tanking, it’s about talent or skill that would put them in whatever position they find themselves. Teams play to win, it’s the skill level that makes that happen....not purposely tanking or cheering for tanking. |

I'd rather miss by a mile than an inch for drafting purposes. Can't deliberately tank these kids though. No way you want to force a losing culture on a bunch of 20-23 year olds.
