Congrats bro,
I have two girls. Balanced it out with a male dog.
Sometimes you'll just feel like a bit of an outsider at home, but the rest of the time you'll be loved like nobody else. |

I was talking to a young man at the gym today. He currently plays goal for the Selkirk Steelers MJHL team. Says that he used to play with Jett Woo back in 2015 Winnipeg Wild midget team and played against Matthew Thiessen in the MJHL last season.
Says Woo was crazy good back then.
Said that Thiessen is going to be a really good goalie in a couple of years. From a goalie stand point, says he reads the game extremely well, isn't an agile goalie but is always square to the puck. A Luongo style goalie. |

Meh, I wouldn't put too much stock into that. Most guys who get drafted by NHL teams were all dominant in lower level leagues when they were kids. I know MJHL/CJHL has produced their fair share of good players, but still.
I have a couple of buddies who played hockey at a fairly high level, one was drafted by Prince Albert and only played around 30 games in the WHL for 3 different teaams and another went undrafted but was offered a tryout by Seattle in the Dub as well, ended up playing hockey in university.
They said that played with/against guys who flat out dominated in lower level leagues that they thought for sure were going to be NHL'ers or at least good AHL'ers, but now a lot of those guys have yet to even sniff the AHL and some aren't even pursuing hockey anymore lol, let alone have been drafted by a NHL team. |

So Marwood my friend, this is where i've been. I work for the railroad, on call most of the time and i have two daughters, aged 10 and 4. I went on vacation at the end of September and got a puppy upon my return.
I just don't really have much time for myself. It's all good though, when we make it out west i still plan on visiting. |

My childhood friend played 45 games for the Wheat Kings as a goalie. Now a doctor. The guy who took his job also from Brandon, Tyler Plante couldn't make it,now sells real estate in Brandon.

Pretty crazy how these guys go from the dreaming that they’ll make millions playing hockey and become local celebrities to regular joes with ordinary day jobs
Still a fun experience even if you only get as far as the CHL/college
My buddy who played in the dub was a skilled player his whole life, but was told once he got drafted into the WHL that he's going to have to become an "energy player" so he bulked up and become a checker/fighter to make it as a 4th liner.
Now he's a mortgage broker lol |

I had scouts around me when i was 12, I never played a game of junior hockey. Some friends did, some were drafted, some played in the NHL. I essentially quit hockey when i was 13 because it became too demanding. I also wanted to play other sports. Some of the best talent i played with growing up never pursued the game because of the high demands.......and that was 30 years ago. |

I had quite a few friends that played in the WHL. Some went to Europe. Only one guy I knew actually went onto the NHL Matt Calvert.
My wife hung out with Ferland when they were kids. Also went to school with Edmundson and Martinook before they went on to play for other teams.
She saw Edmundson fighting on TV once "He was such a nice boy back then, I never imagined him as a person who would fight"
I used to work at a grocery store when I was 16 years old. I worked with William Fairbairn. His pension hadn't kicked in yet. He had to still work. 650 career NHL games. Kind of sad.

Co-worker said in 2000 he went to Kenora to train with Mike Richards another junior player. Said Mike ran hills in Kenora wearing chains. Co-worker said after two weeks of throwing up after every workout, he quit hockey. |
