McQuaid is the exact type of defenseman I wanted over Shattenkirk. Size, defends his teammates, good in his own zone etc. he’s really helped Skjei settle down. Unfortunately he’s probably gone at the deadline but we need more guys like him on D. TOR needs a RHD bad.

McQuaid Zucc Andersson for Nylander?

Would you take 2 pending UFAs and a prospect for a 22 year old RW with two 60 point seasons under his belt that is signed for the next 5 seasons?

They’re going to be in a real tough spot with Marner and Mathews due for huge raises. Andersson is cost controlled and Zucc and McQuaid make them a better team for a cup run. Andersson is 1 year removed from being the 7th overall pick, but let’s keep pretending he’s nothing more than a 4th line center at 20 years old bc Tom said so.

Depending on the $/term I would absolutely sign Mcquaid in the offseason after a trade this deadline if he was up for it

McQuaid Zucc Andersson for Nylander?

- nyrangers9479

That's a lot to give up for someone who is having a terrible season. Trading McQ & Zucc individually makes wayyyyyyyyyyyy more sense. Anderrson is still way too young to give up on.

Not giving up on Andersson, I think he’s going to be a good NHL player, just gives us someone a little more proven. Gives TOR 2 good roster players for the playoffs and cap flexibility for next year with a player that could end up just as good as Nylander.

I have nothing to do with that. All I know is if I'm the maple leafs it starts with a 1st and a very good prospect

Nylander is 22. Is already miles better than Andersson. The day Kyle Dubas makes that trade is the day he gets fired.

Offer that deal up in the Leafs thread. I'm dying, DYING to see the responses.

McQuaid Zucc Andersson for Nylander?

- nyrangers9479

Elliotte Friedman and Nick Kypreos of Sportsnet were discussing veteran d'men that the Leafs will have possible interest in acquiring soon. Surprisingly, McQuaid was not one of them.
They both mentioned Muzzin of the Kings, and Gudas of the Flyers as two possible options, with Muzzin being their #1 target. Muzzin will still have one more year (as Gudas) remaining on his contract after this season, and would replace either Jake Gardiner (the Leafs fans' "favorite"), or Ron Hainsey, both of whom will not likely be returning next season.
However, earlier word elsewhere in Toronto had them interested in a #1/#2 ranking d'man, as in the Blues', Alex Pietrangelo, who also has one more year left on his $6.5M contract compared to Muzzin's $4M, but who will also cost them much more in assets. The Leafs would have to create greater cap space for that deal to happen, & likely why Friedman and Kypreos feel that Muzzin is their first option, despite being a Left Handed shooter.
In comparison, the Leafs avoidance last year to pursue Ryan McDonagh in a trade, appears to be a poorer decision today than it played out during last postseason. That given both the similarity in trade cost assets it would require, & higher salary it would cost long term should Pietrangelo be the way they go.
