Mathews drives his line 50% of the time.. Marner drives his line 100% of the time.. When Mathews is on he is really on and when he is off he is invisible. Marner/JT score regardless of who their wingers are.. JVR and Bozak scored with Marner he just makes guys around him better. They should pair Mathews and marner up for a few games so Marner can get Mathews going..The leafs are a better team with 2-3 lines that can score but they don't have that without Mathews going. Also with lines 1/2 going Kadri's line see's better matchups. |

I'd rather Matthews learn to drive his own line 100% of the time and go through these growing pains. I think teams have studied and learned how to play him effectively now it's his turn to elevate his game and learn how to fight through it. He's playing ok but not with the same level of dominance as other top line centres in the league IMO.
I think the team as a whole is still "learning how to win" and finding out the importance of being consistent with the details of the game, which is probably the hardest part of going from good team to great team. |

(frank)ing awesome.
Life without him would be unbearable. Him and Marner are the only thing keeping us afloat.
Thank (frank) he wanted a better life for himself and his family. - walshyleafsfan
Life in Toronto, (with a $77 mill contract) is better than NY? Ha! Keep telling yourself that. (I get that its “home” to him & wifey but c’mon) He can score 130 goals but if the team doesnt win, wtf does it matter? |

Usually. I would agree
Tonight though, Brown worked harder than every Leaf not named Kapanen. Actually, I thought Nylander played pretty well.
Matthews has had plenty of chances with everyone on the roster except Marner... and not much with Tavares.
I am definitely willing to entertain the idea that something is wrong there, either babcock, or injury.
I just find it amusing that every (frank)ing game someone comes on here talking about how great he was. I watch the games also and I have no idea how people can't see that he is not even in the ballpark of what he was. - Aetherial

I must have been watching a different game. Leafs really deserved a lot better outcome in this game.
Also, I might have accidentally flagged this post. My bad. - GreatGigInTheSky
Really? Looked pretty weak to me. They were outshot. Arizona credited with 30 blocks but many of those were dmen blasting into shin pads of guy that was already in front of him. Last nights game played 82 times doesn't get you to the playoffs.
Marincin was puktastic last night. Hot garbage. |

In your dreams
He also shot a puck from the offensive blueline directly into a guys shins that was in front of him for 2mins and caused the puck to go into their defensive zone and then took a penalty.

What a pile of steaming garage last night. Very poor effort. Keep this up and Montréal will surpass us!!! Who would have called that at the start of the year!??
I assume the boys will come out and look amazing against Washington with a big win, then go on a 5 game 'we look like we don't care' losing streak (if the pattern holds...) |

Its too bad Willy has been so bad, because he is the first one I would try to move in a trade to change the dynamic of the team. You literally couldn't give him away with that contract... |

Losers of 7 out of 10 games, with poor effort in several of those.
Not a good sign.

Serious question here, do you think babcock is part of the problem? I know hes a great coach but I heard that some players hated him in Detroit. Also he changed the lines after a good game in tampa, why? All teams go through slupms but they are 9 9 2 in their last 20 games and thats a long stretch. Clearly the leafs have dynamic forwards but they need help on d no? |

Willy will play better once the trade deadline passes. He's made him self untradeable with his play. Which is exactly what was said he wanted.

Its not rocket science when it comes to everyone knowing the Leafs need a defensive upgrade. Until this happens they can't be judged yet. Its all on Dubas at this point forward IMO.

Yea maybe they move nylander for a top 4 d man but hes been terrible since his return however he still has all that talent so I could see him as the guy that is moved. Do you think babcock is an issue here? |
