Back then, if you made a trade for a player with an expired contract, you often got back a compensatory 2nd round draft pick if the player was signed by another team. I think, about the same time, the Leafs traded Curtis Joseph to Calgary for a 3rd rounder, so Calgary could get a second for losing him to another team.

heres what im thinking..

Leafs win easily.. with Nylander on the 4th line and Gardiner out, all the distractions are are gone. Leafs will out work them and draw penalties, and Nylander will redeem himself on the PP.

i think the rest of the guys can just focus on playing their game without the 29 & 51 distractions.

No shot Philly trades Gudas for less than a 2nd, He has been the best D man on the team this year. One of our only RHD, one of few with Grit and has taken far less 2 minute penalities (and very few stupid ones) like in the past.

you know who also has good advanced stats on the 3rd pairing? the guys on toronto's 3rd pairing
