True story, my first job was as a cashier at Tops, I lasted about 6 weeks, I had to quit or I was going to punch someone; guy comes in with 2 of the big carts overflowing, it was like $600 worth of food and he was female dogging because a 15 cent coupon wouldn't scan that would've saved him 45 cents total. Anyway, a middle aged lady came into my lane and had 6 douches, the bottom lip of the box caught on where the belt meets the scanner and it pulled the bottom of the box off and the douche went flying out of the box. She was quite embarrassed.
Unless they're playing 41 games in a tax-free state like Nevada, Texas, Tennessee, or Florida, NYS is one of the highest taxed with 8.82% top nominal rate, and then the city tacks on another couple percent.
So call it 12% for Rangers, Isles and Devils players who live in NY, but that's only half the time, the other half the time it's whatever state and city they're playing in. It's definitely a difference, 2 or 3% on $6M is a good deal of money, but it should be no one's top 5 choices of where to play.
I don't know enough about Canadian taxes to know how much they are, but it might come into play more between playing for a Canadian team and an American one.
Cost of living would have a much bigger impact than state/city taxes would. - Wetbandit1
Capfriendly has a calculator for it. Tax free states are around 36%, Montreal is tops at around 53%. Buffalo is at 46%, a little above average.

Good post.
I'd agree with cost of living
I was assuming the tax rate was 12% on all income earned in ny state vs. 0 in florida.
X 41 games.
I buy my sneakers in pa to save the 8 3/4 ny/county tax.

Dahlin?
Yeah, that’s certainly an option
My current concern with that is how it would split up him & Bogo
Bogo has looked pretty solid this year,
but he’s been playing with Dahlin
I wonder if splitting them up hurts Bogo’s play?
And we do have Borgen, Dougherty & Laaksonen as RH defensemen that are coming
But idk that any of them will be ready for top4 minutes soon?
Seems like a move for Dahlin to the right side might be a couple years away - jdfitz77
Welp, here's my thoughts
-Bogo's $5.1m Cap hit is too much in my opinion to want to retain him, especially given his injury history and will be 30 whdn the contract kicks in in '20-'20 season.
-Rhd's are at a premium...trying to find one to play with Dahlin could be a quest for years.
-LhD are more plentiful, and therefore should cost a little less for players of equal capibilties.
- Moving Dahlin to ths right, and keeping Risto as your 2nd pairing RhD gives the team a very nice 1-2 punch on that side
- allowing The RhD's in the prospect pool to come up into 3rd pairing is ideal...if one develops a strong game warranting more ice time...great problem to have with a high value asset as a tradeable option.
- hopefully, finding a suitable LhD partner for Dahlin is easier than fighting the whole league for a 1st pairing RhD.
Next year they should begin the transition in planning to let Bogo go, rather than re-signing him.
If they want to retain him for $3m as a 3rd pairing, fine with me.

Good post- solid thought process
