That’s what thought did.
55 days shy of 40 which is the new 30. |

Not sure what your line of reasoning is, but blaming the PP on coaching is just a lazy cop-out to me. That's squarely on the players. I think Phil has been adequate, but this is a flawed team that doesn't have enough talent yet. |

I disagree.
So your blaming:
Sam
Eichel
Skinner
Risto
Dahlin.
I'm pretty sure there's enough skill and talent to be a top half nhl pp.
Are you implying these players are not good at hockey with a man advantage?
Agree to disagree |

I was reading up on this years college free agent crop and thought I would pass along a few thoughts on some players that Botterill might be looking at.
Taro Hirose/LW
22
Michigan State
Hirose is on the smallish side at 5'10" but it hasn't stopped him from putting up big numbers at MSU. Hirose models his game after Johnny Gaudreau and leads the nation in scoring with 40 points (11-29) in 24 games. He has great speed, vision and hands at the collegiate level.
Hirose is essentially all of MSU's offense as they don't have any NHL prospects that are contributing in a big way like Hirose. He also has 18 primary assists out of his 40 points. He has attended Red Wings development camp.
Joe Duszak/D
21
Mercyhurst University
NHL scouts are watching Duszak closely. He checks all the boxes as to what you want out of a free agent signing and he currently leads the nation in scoring among D men with 33 points (11-22) in 25 games. The sophomore is a right handed defenseman at 5'10". He has attended Isles mini camp.
Nico Sturm/C
23
Clarkson
Sturm is considered the best defensive forward in college hockey and also leads his team in scoring this year with 26 points (11-15) in 22 games. The big 6'3" German forward plays a 200 foot game and will win faceoffs, block shots and fight for loose pucks.
Josh Wilkins/LW
21
Providence College
The 5'11" winger turned heads at the Hurricanes development camp two years ago. He has put up 88 points in 101 college games and he's a shifty winger who has put up 26 points in 22 games this year. He has quick hands and excellent stick skills. He recently snapped a 13 game point streak. Carolina could be interested in the Raleigh native.
If I was Botterill, I would have serious interest in Duszak.

If the 1st unit was coached properly, we wouldn't need the second unit.
Is our 2nd unit that much worse then other nhl teams?
We finally have skill on this team.
Need someone to help turn skill into goals and wins.

South course is tough. I got Rose, Day, Sneds and Finau this week with Bradley and Woods in the bench. |

Good post:
Would college free agents choose Buffalo though?
Kinda crowded at forward and defense. (Currently)
Homie- I agree, move bogo and sheary. Sobotka can go too, with bowl u.

CJ and Nelson did. I would think they would because these kids are just looking for an opportunity. I like Sturm and Duszak but lots of scouts are looking at these guys.

Both cj and Nelson had a better opportunity to catch on with a team lacking talented forwards. (Past few Sabres teams)
Short sighted vs. a longer approach
I would sign with a team where an immediate opportunity to play in the nhl is dangled in front of me.
Long term, buffalo could have some spots opening up?
Behind: cj, asplund, mallone, nylander |
