I assuming the protected from Seattle are..,

Giroux, Voracek, Couturier, Konecny, Patrick, Laughton and Lindblom
Provorov, Ghost, Sanheim
Hart

This is assuming Simmonds is already traded and everyone still hates JvR?

In this case, they take Hagg?

- SuperSchennBros

They could claim Gudas to try and re-sign him before he hits UFA or if we re-sign him before that.
I agree that a D-man is most likely...

I would jump at Hagg if I’m Seattle.

Hagg, Morin, Myers, JVR, and anyone that would be a rookie next year... 2 years of NHL right and draft is after 2021 so 2020 rookies would play in 2020 and in 2021... so that could also include farabee if he makes the team... and that doesnt include any trades or ufa's we pick up.

So how could the league stop the below from happening....

After the playoffs:
Flyers trade Voracek to VGK for a 3rd round pick.
Ottawa trades Duchene to VGK for a 4th round pick.

After the expansion draft:
VGK trades Voracek to Ottawa for a 3rd round pick.
VGK trades Duchene to Flyers for a 2nd round pick.

VGK turns a 3rd & 4th into a 2nd & 3rd... or whatever the cost is. They are completely legal trades.

I see you fall firmly into the "letter" of the law versus the "spirit" of the law. It's people like you that ensure Arizona keeps it's "you can't let your donkey sleep in a bathtub" law on the books. (Or my other personal favorite in Connecticut a pickle must bounce to be a legal pickle.)

Just put it down to Bettman might implode and thus he'll play god...

You know what? I’m completely unaware of when the explanation draft is. My assumption is, it’s one year from this coming off season but this is my own. Speculation. In two years from now, I still believe Myers would be protected regardless.

What was the reason Provorov and Konecny couldn’t be claimed?

And again, the Kovalchuk contract was a completely legal contract. Yet the NHL (Bettman) didn't like it and there was hell to pay.

Provorv and Konecy were exempt because they hadn't completed two NA pro years. That's why Morin was exempt even though 2016-2017 was his second year...the ED took place before the year changed, so he hadn't completed 2 full years.

Myers will not be protected, because it's North American pro seasons, not NHL seasons.

He'll most likely be unprotected. I think JvR or Morin may the one to go.

Yeah, but when the person who makes the rules has unlimited God power to change the rules any time he feels like it, you'd better not tempt him to do so.

Per NHL.com it says NHL seasons, not pro seasons. Provorov and Konecny were NHL rookies that year.

This would also explain why Morin wasn't protected because he did have 2 Pro seasons (2015-2016 and 2016-2017)

If he did anything too egregious it would go to arbitration.

Then why did Anthony Stolarz have to be protected? He had completed 2 pro seasons without playing 1 minute of NHL action. So if it was just NHL players, there would be no need to protect him.

Morin wasn't protected because he didn't need to be, he was exempt because the 2016-2017 season hadn't been completed.

Dude, we (this board) went through this like 2 weeks ago.

And that arbitration hearing would likely take weeks longer than the date of the ED would occur, making the hearing moot.

You may have done this 2 weeks ago but I didn't.

However you maybe right. NHL.com says professionals here..

https://www.nhl.com/news/...n-draft-rules/c-281010592

Regardless, it could be a lot of good players possibly taken...

There will be many good players available.

The Flyers will likely have to go the 4/4/1 scheme this time around instead of the 7/3/1

Giroux
Patrick
Konecny
Couturier
Provorov
Ghost
Sanheim
Myers/Morin

The easiest way would be to make Vegas part of the draft. Jesus, they made it to the SCF, do you still need to protect them?

I agree 100%. But them's the rules, NHL wants to keep the new kids competitive for as long as possible.

I believe that Sandstrom would be exempt, but not positive. Either way, we're keeping Hart unless things go really badly.

Also, Ratcliffe was (I believe) on a PTO, which would not count.

Ok I will put them under protected for now.

Imagine if the Flyers signed or traded for a goalie with a NTC...that would automatically expose Hart.
