yep - SABRES 89
Young 40 point defender with a year left on his $4M/yr contract.
Leafs pick will be late. Take away the 2 prospects (who I know nothing about) and it doesn't seem like a crazy deal.
But I don't know anything about his zone entries or his CF% or even his direct primary support of 5v5 shot attempts. |

I seem to recall a few posters here that HATE Muzzin. I always thought he was pretty good. I think this is a good move for the Leafs, unfortunately. |

A good move for the Leafs would be Seattle . |

Had him many times in the HBSL pool. Was always a cheap point getter. |

Not a top-pair defenseman though imo. They have a nice 2-3 in Reilly and a 3-4 in Muzzin |

So what do you do if you're CBJ? Panarin's agent says they'll talk about extension after the season. Do you keep him or not? I say you trade him if you get a good return that'll help long term. |

Yeah... but how does he “fit” into their lineup?
He’s a lefty, along with Reilly & Gardner
Does he pair with one of them?
Not ideal
They NEEDED a righty
Bad practice to let guys keep walking for nothing like they did with JVR & Bozak last year & now most likely Gardner this season
And what do they do after next season when Muzzin is a 31yr old UFA (he’s NOT YOUNG)... Let him walk too?
Or potentially even worse, they could sign him to a big$$$ long term deal
I fail to see how Muzzin is a good fit,
in the short term or for the future
Bad idea by them- and i LOVE it

They should’ve traded him & Bobrovsky BEFORE this season started
They could’ve maximized the return for them both much better then
Now they’ll just have to take what they can get, or both likely walk after another 1st round exit
CBj is in a really rough spot
They’re a good team, just not good enough
They should be building for when Pitt & the Caps start their decline in a few seasons
Instead...
they’re holding on to the (unlikely) idea that they can jump over the Caps & Pens in the playoffs this year
Would’ve been tough to trade their best 2 players...
but that’s what they SHOULD'VE done |

Muzzin has played the right side for half his career.
He was Doughty’s partner half the time. |

And how did his numbers look on each side?
Maybe they were better on the left bc he played with Doughty
But maybe he’s also just not as strong on his off side
And ALSO...
none of that solves what they do with him after next year with the potential Cap Hit they’d have to sign a 31yr old to |

He was great on the RD spot. His numbers were better there.
He’s gonna play with Rielly from what I’ve read (speculation) |

Yeah... older than he seems
I think he didn’t start getting regular minutes till he was 25-ish
A bit of a late bloomer
If i remember right, he was a lower round draft pick by Pitt who never got much of a chance till he got into LA’s system |

Really?
That’s kind of surprising to me
Regardless...
even if he works out great for them,
It’s a 1.5year timeline for them to get the most out of him
The way they’ve been doing business,
I’m guessing they let him walk as a UFA after next season |

I agree
And then Muzzin probably walks when his deal is up
Leafs are making some curious moves imo
This one seems especially short sighted,
unless they’re thinking they can extend him?
But with the term & Cap Hit he’ll likely demand,
I just don’t see how they can do it
Not unless they trade Nylander |
