The best women's players in the world could absolutely hang with the NHL All Stars in an exhibition like the All Star game where nobody not named Jeremy Roenick throws a body check.

They already have them in the skills competition why not include them in the actual game that nobody cares about anyway?

There is a Women's NHL now. The NHL should be doing more to promote THAT as opposed to trying to be inclusive: Just make the women's all-star game a similar 3 on 3 format and have them play on the same day.

And Decker flat out won the passing challenge that took most of them 2 minutes to complete, if they did at all, I heard "time" on a few of them. She did it in 1:06. In an event that showcases skill with no purposeful body contact I see no reason why they couldn't participate other than fear of embarrassment on the part of the men.

But on to my real comment. First off Gary Bettman is a complete a utter failure regarding hockey popularity in the states. Has he managed to expand the leauge ? yes. However, he has failed miserably on how to promote hockey in non-traditional markets.

I for one am sick to death of hearing about how you can't create fans in the south or the "states" for that matter. Are you trying to tell me that my brain is any different than a southerners brain. That the same reason I love hockey a southern cannot learn to love the game of hockey ? And I don't want to hear the old bullpoop story that "cuz they don't have cold weather with snow and ice" means they can't enjoy and embrace hockey. I'll call anyone out on that crap.

What Bettman and the NHLPA and owners should do is create more inner city rinks that will bring the youth into playing hockey and create a familiarity with being around hockey. Hockey is a very expensive sport and becoming even more expensive. I remember when I was a lad a goal stick cost me 30 dollars ! But that's the problem. Hockey has become a rich mans sport. It isn't a sport like basketball where there is a hoop in every park and kids can just pick up a basketball and start playing without equipment or the need to rent ice etc.

Something I noticed when I updated Buffalo's stats is that Dahlin has directly setup more 5v5 shots than anyone else on the team except Eichel (9.28 primary shot assists per 60 minutes). Third highest rate in the NHL in my current sample.

A big part of the problem about teams in non-traditional markets is they don't win on the ice.

Hockey does just fine in So-Cal, Tampa, Nashville and in Dallas.

But Carolina, Florida, and Arizona well the teams on the ice suck.

People will come watch a winning product. During Florida's cup run in the 90's they rocked their arena. But they haven't won anything since.

Build a good team and people will come.
