But yeah, he's just crooked Dave Scott's yes man. - hereticpride
Hyperbole. Do you think Fletcher has the authority to ignore the mandate he has been give from Scott?

Love everything he said. Obviously there are a couple other untouchables but they're quite young and you don't want to give kids with room to grow an ego.
I think Simmonds will be dealt. It just doesn't make sense for us to give him the kind of deal someone is going to overpay for on the open market. If the re-signs it will be due to him taking a big discount to stay put imo.

Re Simmonds:
This is just a guess but I think the Flyers would be willing to pay him well, but for only four years max. I could see them going as high as 7.5 million, but the term is the deal breaker. Simmonds and agent know that there is a GM out there somewhere ready to give him 6 years and 40 million.
Simmonds might like, or even love playing in Philly, but he’s not leaving 10 million on the table. He’s going to be traded |

Not hyperbole when someone on here today literally called him a yes man.
And I don't read too much into this supposed mandate. Scott wants to start icing a winning team. Frankly, Hextall left is with a fairly stocked cupboard. Its not the wrong time to start expecting results imo. |

My thought on this reading Fletcher's comments is that both sides apparently know where they stand. If there was something agreeable between both sides, wouldn't it have already been done? What's going to change in a couple of weeks? |

I was on the thread pretty much all day and if someone called him a yes man, I missed that.
Scott said he wants the team to be aggressive and that they will be a cap team.

I am on record as a bring Doughty to PHI.
Start with Jake, their voice of (Sanheim or Myers) and a lottery protected 1st.
I think it is fair. I know he is 29. I know his extension kicks in next year at 11 million per.
I don't care. I think HIS presence would exceed Voracek and am not worried about 9 years from now, so many things can happen including him STILL contributing at a decreased rate. It's the price of elite talent. |

Not trading him for just Voracek. How can you ignore the other two assets in the deal?
That's a deal you make if you feel he is the player that puts you over the top and you can afford to deal the players you send the other way. Not a fit for the Flyers and I love Doughty.

Both teams are in the same spot.
Doughty loves LA, which I did not know but ultimately does not matter but 11 million already set that market barring another lockout.
AND he is the coveted right hand defenseman.
Just an idea. He is still 29, how long was Chelios great? Not that there will ever be another Chelios. |

Mix it up, value for value with new perspective for both players /teams.
Or convince the other team that their the winners.
Maybe they are rethinking the extension. I for one do not see it as prohibitive.
Then again it was just a theory. |

I don't see anything there that explains why LA would want to trade Doughty if both teams are in the same spot.
I love Doughty. I don't think the contract is prohibitive. I just don't think it's the right move for the Flyers. One, I think Sanheim is going to be a stud. Two, they could trade Voracek in another move and add more players. Three, I don't want to give up a first round pick. If the Flyers were ready to contend, I would consider it. |

Fair enough!
Still think mixing things up can create unexpected gains for one or both.
