It's not about if it needs to be fixed or not. It's obvious that it does. It's about how to go about fixing it. That distinction apparently escapes some.

I’m hoping they don’t buyout Weise because I believe he has one year left and why deal with the penalty but I’m absolutely in favor of buying out Mac. I’ve just had enough. - SuperSchennBros

I think Fletch is doing a good job so far.
He's gotten rid of some dead weight in Weal and Weise. He swapped Leier for Bailey, and Bailey has been playing nicely for the Phantoms.
Lastly, I think the biggest move he has made is firing Hakstol. It had to be done.
Now just don't screw up and resign Simmer for more than 4 years. I mean everyone knows we don't want to lose Simmer for nothing, but we might have to if we don't sign him to an 8 year contract.. so the trade offers might be squat right now. |

That’s the thing. I don’t think the Flyers will ever use Mac that way. I felt like Myers had a good enough camp to earn a spot but here comes the road block that is Andrew MacDonald, coming back from injury just in time for opening night. |

It was an article about Scott. Why would it be centered around Hextall? - MJL
Correct. As I said, the article was not about Hextall. However, your comments were regarding Hextall.

I think the biggest change is the communication. It's obvious he is including the front office in his"plan". - FlyersGrace
I knew what Hextall's plan as did any other fan who follows the team. How is that a change?

I have no problem drafting and developing guys to stock the prospect pool. That should be a philosophy all GM'S should adhere to. But you have to be aggressive too. There has to be a best of both worlds. Just drafting guys isn't enough. If you don't make aggressive moves you're banking on all your picks panning out. And we know that isn't ever the case.
If you want to be a Stanley cup contender, you got to make Stanley cup moves. - Pelle31Forever
The key though, at least in my view is to build the team up to the point where you can now make a few key moves using other tools such as trades and free agency. If you rush that process and try to do too much in being aggressive, you run a real risk.

It's the day to day expectation. As a fan I grew used to Hextall squashing all rumors and knowing that I would hear about it after the fact. Most bosses won't let you operate that way unless you have obvious results. There is always some oversight. I guess my feeling is that Fletcher is much better at including management on a daily or weekly basis. It should never be an inconvenience to give your boss an update and they shouldn't feel like they are bothering you to get that update or influence the direction. I guess that was my point. |

So far to this point I havent seen anything close to rush or being too aggressive.
I think that Fletch realizes everything Hextall left him including both the good (cap situation + prospects) and bad (current team mix + goaltending)
This offseason will be telling to him and for all the hate on Holmgren under his watch we were two wins away from a cup. He did a lot wrong but he also did good things. |

No, many people on here assured us all that replacing Hextall with Fletcher meant that we'd be making panic moves involving valuable young pieces to salvage this season. - jmatchett383
In my opinion to this point, no major moves have been made simply because they aren't available to be made. I don't know about you but when I read we want to be aggressive, we want to be a cap team. We just spend 250M on the Wells Fargo center and we don't want to waste that, that is telling.

Okay, here are your comments that I’m referencing:
Hextall was methodical and also had a plan. Hextall was also looking for opportunities. What's different?
Why did they hire Hextall in the first place. If they wanted to stay a cap team and remain aggressively spending in the free agent market, should've just kept Holmgren as GM. Those comments alone are very scary. - MJL
I have no interest in debating the Hextall firing. I was only making comments about the article and Scott. |

You have a different feel for what went on. First of all, I don't think any GM wants to micro managed to that level. Secondly, I think it was more about they didn't like what Hextall was telling them rather than not communicating. I wasn't there, so I could be wrong. But that's the jist of it. Hextall was unwilling to move off of his plan to esclate the process.

Then later in the article, we want to be aggressive, we want to be a cap team.
Scott stating that he wants the Flyers to be a cap team should scare the bejezuzz out of fans.

We also saw under Holmgren that the team he built wasn't sustainable. It had to be broken up. I have no doubt that the Flyers under Fletcher can use cap space and assets to wheel and deal to make the team better but to what end? Hextall wanted to build a team that was sustainable to take multiple runs at it over a wide ranging period of time. Not a one and done.

That's a fair assessment, but it's hard to know what you're building when the kids are staying down for awhile.
I totally understand what Hextall was trying to do, I just feel the Flyers lost patience with his patience. G, Jake and Simmer aren't getting younger and who knows if Konecny, Patrick and Coots can lead a team.
Flyers find themselves in a tough spot. They have decent individual talent, good prospects but I feel they have more questions than answers. |

I agree with what you say would be the most they could offer and also think its fair but I don't think the Jets options are limited at all, 25 year old top pair right shot D are pretty sought after around the league and all you need is 2 teams interested. I think Detroit ( Trouba's hometown will be very interested as well this summer ) - Ross77
There will absolutely be interest. I just meant that they won’t get as much as they might have if they had moved him a year or 2 ago. But yes, if the acquiring club feels they have a good chance of re-signing him, you’ll get a very nice return. |

I agree with all of that. Hextall and Hakstol for that matter believed in patiently developing players. I also agree with those that stated that they were forced to call up Hart. Some are complaining that still the Flyers are reluctant to call up players such as Myers. I want them to do whatever they feel is best for the young players.

Good...at least the word Hextall isn’t in this post of yours.
I think we have a different viewpoint. I haven’t seen any reason to be scared. I am in a “watchful waiting” mode.
