I bet they'd trade G for a proven #1 D in his prime. Not saying it's going to happen, or that it would be 1-for-1, but that would be the key.

So from the Sabres it would be Risto? Casue Dhalin is not going anywhere..

ummm....NTC

I don't know what Giroux family situation is, but if the decision is solely based on hockey, I can see him waiving his NTC. Since the lockout the flyers have rotated between missing the playoffs and losing in the first round. He is 31 years old, and the team seems to be spinning their tires. I can see him waiving his NTC, I just don't see it being to Buffalo. I'd think he would want a more established team, possibly the sharks for example.

San Jose has zero cap room. But I do agree with you, I think he would waive for the right situation.

They will this off season. I don't see him as a trade deadline deal. More like a draft day deal. He still has 3 years left at 8.7. That's difficult to do at the deadline.

Nothing against Risto, he's good at what he does, but Buffalo doesn't have the D it would take to get G (assuming as you said Dahlin is a non-starter). Very few teams do, and even less would be willing to give up that particular guy. I don't see (and definitely don't want to see) a G trade happening, price would be too steep going either way, if that makes any sense.

Like I said earlier, I don't see any sensible trade between the Flyers and Sabres.

I really think that all depends on if the Flyers are going to totally tear it down.. If that is the case Buffalo does have players, Prospects and especially first round choices to trade for any player.

ps I dont think they are or they should.. So I agree with you, prob no trade between those teams...

The Flyers would be nuts to go back into rebuild mode. They have Laughton, Konecny, Sanheim, Morin, Vorobyev, Myers, Farabee, Frost, Provorov, Aube-Kubel, Martel all at various stages of early career development. Draft picks are borderline worthless to the Flyers right now...especially with Comcast in full control and looking to get butts back in the seats.

Looks like the comments have that Hextall/Hakstol thing covered. I'll just leave this.

Ok, ok. One more thought. The Flyers making a deal with the Sabres makes zero sense. Carter Hutton is of no use to the Flyers. The Sabres' D is predominantly young. The Sabres aren't going to trade Okposo or Skinner while trying to make the playoffs (and because they have NTC's). Pominville is less than a used puck bag. Eichel is out of the question. There's no return here that makes any sense.

- turdadactyl

Okposo? I think they’d be glad to do that.

The Flyers are not that far away. Not trading Couterier and Sanheim to Buffalo for a bag of magic beans.
Girgensons is a dime a dozen forward. Beaulieu is a borderline NHLer. Got to give up value to get value. Unless you are trading with Chirellli or GMTM

I think that Philly would be more willing to trade Giroux over Couturier. what would it take for Philly to trade him??

Didn’t fletcher say that Giroux is the only untouchable? I’m sure Hart is also well should be anyway.

Garf Cotourier alone will cost you a top prospect+ or a first+. Bay-ewww isn’t going to cut it. We will be lucky to get a conditional 4th for him

Fletcher sucks at trades too. He’s part of one of the biggest blunders in NHL history. Burns traded for basically Coyle if I remember correctly?
