Im not looking to turn it into a cup contender...Im looking to turn it AWAY from another 11th place finish in the East...which is coming.
hey...we disagree....youre ok with not making the playoffs for 10 years on the pipe dream that 3 15-25 draft picks are going to step right in and lead us to the cup...
Id take a different approach
and again..Id absolutely trade those 3 picks for a resigned reasonable Duchene.
Eichel (22-28) and Duchene (28-34) over Eichel and 3 18-24 2nd level prospects....yep... - RippedFuel
You want Ottawa to sign Duchene to reasonable extension and then trade him to us....and you're calling draft picks a pipe dreams? |
|

[quote=sbroads24]
right...so why not start GETTING them...
I see your point...the hell with the second line...Rochester needs to be good.....
we don't need a 2C nearly as bad as Rochester needs some young fresh penalty killers... |

we need a second line winger...Mark Stone is a 2nd line winger....
the 18th pick in the 2019 draft MIGHT be a 2nd line winger...in 2023...
Seems pretty easy to me...

Stone ššššššš
Heās easily my top UFA target this offseason |

Tampa traded multiple 1st rd picks for Miller, McDonagh
Jets traded a 1st rd pick + for Paul Stastny
Nashville traded a 1st rd pick + for Ryan Hartman.
All the teams you listed did what i have been asking, homegrown talent with a trade for an already established NHLer |

no..I want them to trade him to us...and them WE sign him...ā¦
you know....just like Skinner was going to hit the market...he was just a rental....
But if making a trade for a UFA and getting him signed to a new deal is too much to ask from our GM...then ...youre all right.....we DO have bigger problems.. |

I see some good debts here today... WOW.
Let me add my two cents.
Im fine with trading one first round pick and some prospects for a 2nd line center
There is NO way Im trading our first round pick..(the other two, fine) not with the way we are playing till this point.
I agree with the fact that the first round picks might never pan out... But now Im really starting to question is it the drafting of the player? or is it the development of said player????
When is the last time we had a draft pick actually go though the system and actually become an impact player in the NHL? (gotta go back to the miller, Baron, Roy, Vanak days IMHO.
Im not happy with how they handed Mittelstadt this year so is the problem the drafting or the developing or both? No matter what, they better figure out what the hell is going on and fix it ASAP. because guys that are going to help 4 or 5 years down the line won't matter if we don't get some players in here to help what we do have in place now. |

No, but why do we have to wait?
We arenāt gonna trade for Muzzin who will just be here for a year & a half
As long as we get a guy in the right age range (which Botts has flat out said thatās who heād trade for),
then that player will be here for years
AGAIN...
why are we waiting around wasting more years of Jack & Dahlin?

Im sure Ill get butchered for this..but who cares...
Im done with "prospects". In my 40 years of being a sabres fan, Ive seen too many Novotnys, Paul Cyrs, David Coopers, Eric Rasmussens, and Wayne Primeaus, to worry about "prospects". Hell, they even took Brad May over Keith Tkachuk because he was a better "prospect".
Id love nothing more than JB to trade all three of those 1sts for some TRUE NHL depth. 2nd and 3rd line guys that can help this weekend. Everyone thinks youre getting 3 Pasterniks with those picks. That one year Boston had 3 1sts in a row. ONE is an NHL player..one.
Go cherry pick some cap stressed/ tanking tems for some NHL players...Flyers, Leafs, whoever...get Eichel some damn help already - RippedFuel i love your plan for the Sabres but then again im a leafs fan.

The point Iām making isnāt that all these picks will turn out, itās that we need to maximize our chances of hitting by using them.
We absolutely NEED to fill the cupboards with cheap skill in the next few years, otherwise we will be trading away the same guys people want to trade for.
Tampa, WPG, NSH etc ALL have homegrown picks playing for cheap and playing big roles because of drafting and developing.
Itās not that trading the 24th pick for Brayden Schenn wouldnāt or canāt be a win for us, itās that what we need is more than just a Brayden Schenn
- sbroads24
Well who is saying we should ONLY trade for Schenn & do NOTHING ELSE?
Of course thereās more work to be done
But trading for Coyle doesnāt āmove the needleā as you like to say?
And while we do need to draft & develop,
we shouldnāt be sitting on our hands wasting 3-5 years of Eichel & Dahlin to figure out which picks will work out & which wonāt |

my final post and my final point of the day....
our team, which has a true 1C and a true #1D, along with some quality top line wingers...is DESPERATE for secondary scoring...basically an entire 2nd line.
Managements response to that is "wait until the 6th, 7th, and 8th years of our elite centers career...to see if these draft pics we have turn out...if not...we will readdress it then..."
good plan... |

my guess is Botts wanted to see how / which players made any impact this year. I think his thought process was / is stay the course (hopefully get lucky with the draft lottery). and then start moving pieces around in the off season.
At least we are starting to hear of the sabres reaching out and testing waters.... Because I sure HATED watching him sit on his hands while we blew the cushion we built up early in the season. |
