Opinions vary regarding "screwing the pooch" by trading O'Reilly.
Why don't you let the man, you know, the guy that's been on the job for a year and a half, finish what he started? - Powerslave
I never said to fire the guy... Did I? Im saying he (frank)ed up that move.... and that's a fact because we are all talking about the need for a 2nd line center. a center we had.
are you really trying to defend that he screwed up this move???? |

then you dont know hockey....kap is a difference maker. And theres a reason every gm wanted him in an exchange for top 4 defense men for the leafs....sabres fans im gonna take a little break in hating your team for a minute and tell ya the truth....you should be ahead of the leafs in your rebuild but you weren't paitient enough and you tried to jump start it with all those trades a few years back. And NOW your wanting that all again? Im mean thats beautiful if your me a leafs fan. But jeseus im getting frustrated reading some of your stuff on here. You think you d be encouraged by what your team was doing in the early part of the season. Well coached. Draft well and develop. Either that or keep chasing your tails which im fine with. Smarten up. Im starting to find it hard hating all of you. Lol and theres no fun in that. - ziffles
Except the SAbres were never a good, well coached team. They were constantly outplayed during the 10 game streak and relied on great goaltending.
That goaltending has come back to earth and the Sabres are now playing at a 31st overall type pace.
There are many questions still out on housley, adn the team is still full of trash from Murray.
The SAbres have three first round picks. They can trade one and still use two.
This poop is not that hard. |

Do you like Skinner?
We aren't resigning Skinner if RoR is still here.
We traded:
RoR, 2nd, 4th, Pu
for
Skinner, Tage, Sobo, 1st, 2nd
I would like to do this three or four more times please. |

not if they are 5 good trades...
you are pigeon holing what we are saying the same as we are doing it to you.
you - don't trade the fist round picks
us - trade them
the actual implied {I would assume for both) is do whatever we have to do to make this roster better as soon as possible. not doing anything (up to this point in the season) is VERY frustrating.... Waiting to develop mid first round picks will be very Frustrating. That all any of us are saying, there MUST be a balance of what we can do (Now as well as picks to develop). - gordong
I'm with you trade the picks if you can get quality proven NHL talent. If we use the picks what are the chances they develop into anything within the next 5 years? 50-50? Not good enough odds for me, I would rather trade the picks and try to fill in as many holes as I could...

Your crystal ball telling you he (frank)ed up that move? Tage going to suck? That 1st rounder going to suck? Hey, maybe, just maybe, he parlays said first rounder into a top 6 forward...
That's what I'm defending. You're burying this trade as a failure already, and you have no idea, ZERO, what either of those assets turns into.
It's, once again, the instant gratification at work here, instead of allowing the man to turn this roster over (the one that finished DEAD LAST with O'Reilly "leading" our 2nd line). Sh!t takes time. |

WHO's fault is it that the 2nd line center that wanted out was not replaced? THE GM, THAT FAILED TO REPLACE HIM with someone.
why is this so hard to understand people??
Fine you traded him, now you have to replace him? He failed at this part, END of story.... Now he has to try and replace him again. (hopefully sooner than later) |

Can't do it all in one year.
Mitts was supposed to be better.
Bergy was supposed to come it and help lessen the load.
Neither of those things happened. |

Technically Thompson, Sobotka, and Berglund carried the same combined cap hit as ROR so resigning Skinner would have had nothing to do with it |

That’s not necessarily true
The salary we brought in was more than ROR
And there would be ways to get rid of salary if needed |

Sobo had one year left. Bergs could be buried for another mil.
It absolutely freed up a significant amount of cap moving forward for us.
Remember, you're signing Skinner for 7-8 years. RoR had 6 more I think. Instead 3.5 would fall off next year from Sobotka, giving us half of Ryan's cap hit back. This would've allowed money in the ensuing seasons to resign guys like Reinhart, Dahlin and Mitts.
Do you see how signing both would have prevented that? |

and yet you want me to allow you do the same thing you're expecting me to have Faith that Tage and a low 1st round pick is going to replace him when you have NO idea, ZERO? And I have not said the trade is a failure.... I SAID he didn't replace the 2nd line center stop trying to put words in my mouth.
we had a 2nd line center - we traded him
we got assets back = not much so far but still have a pick coming
we don't have a 2nd line center now....
Sorry but in my mind that is getting worse not better.... he failed at replacing a guy he traded.
no poop it takes time, we only been on the clock for 10 freakin years. |

IT would cost the Sabres nearly $3MM for Berglund to play in the A.

Nah, your comparing 3 cap hits to 1.
We’d be paying 2 additional roster spots on top of Oreilly.

Yes, a million dollars less. Minus another 3.5 when Sobo comes off. And we aren't even talking about roster spot savings which add up.
Again, we saved a bunch of money, not really sure what you're arguing here. |
