Eichel seems to have matured quite a bit
He’s nowhere near the punk Pat Kane was/is
And he’s won quite a bit
So as long as Jack has outgrown his 18/19 year old self- i think we are ok
Also...
Jack didn’t tell them to trade O’Reilly
That’s pretty ridiculous - jdfitz77
You very well might be right. It appeared early on he bought into what housley was selling. My opinion seeing the sabres live against the sharks was they were solid. Made a few of us lesf fans a little nervous at work. Sabres i think just need to wait and draft and develop more. Can t believe that some on here dont know that. Need more time. God knows i know how hard that is. Its the kind of pain both our fan bases know all too well. |

Of course drafting & developing is important
It’s the only way to sustain long term success
That doesn’t mean we can’t also make good trades to help our team NOW, and in the FUTURE |

There’s also an inbetween
And i thought i saw u saying you’d bring in Coyle (27 to start next year), and Silfverberg (29 at the start of next year) - jdfitz77

He didn't necessarily want out, they should have told him it will be Jack's team and they didn't, there was even a " meeting" regarding the matter. ROR wasn't going to play 2nd man to Eichel so the best thing was to move him. |

I don't want to keep bringing it up because he's gone but, we got NOTHING for a very good player in ROR. Sorry my opinion. |

You’re still advocating “building our team” with guys in their late20s
Using a 1st would just get us a better player than a 3C like Coyle |

Those are complimentary pieces, not core players.
I’m not moving a first round pick unless it’s for a 20-24 year old guy who’s going to be here 5-7 years minimum |

Agreed but theres a time for everything. Trades involve adding by subtraction. The sabres just need to add right now. And they need to strike a little gold with later picks in the draft. Your number centre and future dman are just kids. Theres lots of time. |

That remains to be seen.
The full time NHLers? Sure, I'll agree w that.
But the first? No one knows how that ends up (whether we make the pick or trade it) |

Close enough that dumping someone like Beaulieu for a low round pick would cover it
Bad argument
But he’s not even arguing we shouldn’t have made the trade
He’s saying that Botts’ plan for a 2C this season failed
That’s very inarguable - jdfitz77
Beaulieu was drafted 17th overall

What’s the percentage that a mid-late round 1st becomes a top6 forward?
50? Less?
I’ll be generous & call it 50%
A 50% chance for an extra few years of a good player IF they develop quickly
Or
A 100% chance of getting a player who can help us NOW...
and even though we might (yes, “might”) miss out on a few extra years if we trade for someone in the 26-28 range,
that doesn’t mean they can’t be effective for us into their 30s
Many guys are
While building a significant portion of our team like that would be a mistake,
we can certainly make it work by bringing in a guy or 2 that can help us for the next 5 or so years
You make it seem like it can only be one way or the other
We can trade for a Schenn, Couturier, etc with 1 of the 1sts & still Draft/Develop the others |

I think we're ALL in agreement that trading a 1st is/could be a good idea.
The guy who brings up trading all of our firsts? Ludicrous. |

He was exaggerating his point
And he’s the only one who said anything that drastic
There are some on here that advocate not trading ANY of the 1sts |

I think they almost HAVE TO trade a first at this point.
And I don't think Ripped Fuel exaggerates any points purposely. |

it's a slippery slope
first move triggers everything else
I still want to focus on signing skinner, move some scrubs and call some kids up to finish the season
whatever happens, happens
then be in a strong position for the draft and july 1st |

I like the thoughts of trading 2 first round picks for an impact kid in the top 10 at the draft
fits our timeline better and frees up some cap money in the short term |

I think we might have to as well
Skinner type trades are few and far between
They usually work out more like Sheary has
Gotta give, to get |

Trading for a 2C probably won’t be easy,
so I’m not counting on it
Like u say, continue dumping the garbage
If we can trade for a “core” piece,
then we should
But we’d still have work to do
I really want Stone as a UFA
He’s a perfect fit imo |

I don’t get why we are trading for a 2C. We have one. He is just a rookie and needs time.
The dumbest idea ever is to trade a lot for a guy who’s going to be an overpaid 3C soon |
