Not so fast. Cervelli is reporting that extension talks between Edmonton and Talbot are in the works. Nothing imminent but the door has been opened.

Apparently Talbot has some trade value... that's sure a change for the Oilers. |

Still hoping they can pull something off around Talbot for Sparks. |

You should watch Sparks play. I am baffled by his AHL success. |

And yet he still finds success at the AHL level and has stepped into the NHL during a time of flux for the goaltending position. We need a goalie that can potentially bridge the gap between Koskinen (lol) and our prospects that hopefully develop. Sparks is of that age and has success at lower levels and- in the case of this trade- could be had without surrendering an asset of notable value.
Most goalies are absolutely unpredictable and should be treated as such. Trying to scout them is a fools errand for any untrained eye and many trained eyes. |

I don't disagree. I thought Bernier looked like a world-beater. He had wonderful form. All of those qualities "experts" tell you about: soft pads, small movements, yadda, yadda - he looked good in net.
More closely to your home - I loved watching Dubnyk (when he was an Oiler). He had this great second-effort - making unbelievable saves. He would, unfortunately, seemingly lose focus and allow a weak crap goal in just minutes after looking like Hasek v2.0 - but the point is that he looked like a goalie.
But you should watch Sparks play. This is a case where the numbers on paper really require the eye test.
I've been wrong so many times it's not funny, but he does not look like an NHL goalie. |

If the Oilers weren't so inept when it came to player development we might not have crease issues (Dubnyk & Broissoit)

Agreed and yet the Oilers remain intent on finding people that "fits Oiler culture" because apparently that "culture" isn't precisely the problem that's dragged this team into being an abject failure across nearly every dimension. |

What're you hoping out of him? The most I could see the team getting is a 3rd. |

There was mention that we could get a useful middle six forward. Sparks is not a good goalie. |

Until the Oilers purge Lowe, Crack-T and the rest of the Boys on the Bus they are doomed to repeat failure. |

Only if that useful middle-6 forward doesn't take up cap space. Unless we have a separate trade to open cap space for Sekera, then Talbot has to go out with minimal cap coming back. Further, if we trade Talbot, we're gonna want to have something lined up to bring in a backup as Montoya has imploded and I'd prefer Starrett keep Skinner company in Bakersfield. |

Ideally I would love to see a good hockey trade with Pulju and Talbot bundled up. |

Lovejoy, Kinkaid, Boyle and a 2nd for Lucic and Larsson. |
