And offer sheet is not and offer…it is NOT you asking your girlfriend to marry you… An “Offer Sheet” should be termed a “Signed Contract Pending the Current Team’s Response. An offer sheet is your girlfriend saying “Yes I will marry you and here is how much we will spend for the wedding…pending my dad doesn’t kill me first”
This is how you explain it? |

I don't see any offer sheets happening. Although it is quite amusing that a couple of weeks ago Matthews was getting sheeted, now it's Marner.

A team drafting near the end of round 1 year after year, It's very worth it to offer sheet someone ! A team like Edmonton, who are an embarrassment when it comes to the draft and drafting, are always in the top 3 so not for them because they'd be giving a top 3 overall every year. They'll draft in the top 3 for the next 10 years probably |

Kapanen will get an offer sheet... can the Leafs afford 4 million for Kapanen? Compensation would be a 2nd round pick... or they convince him to sign prior or they deal him at the draft |

Offer sheets are usually middle of the line kinds of things that seem to happen, trying to just steal someone that's worth the first and third your giving up, once your over the 6XXXX range your getting a bit nuts with your assets.
As per say Mitch, Patrick and matty T.....I would gladly take the 4 firsts for any of those players honestly...Which in turn makes under 9 safe for them although still expensive. |

I glanced over this quickly so if I missed this my bad, but you left out a huge point!! Any offer sheet that is over 5 years in length is not what you think for calculating compensations. Any contract over 5 years is still dived by 5 to figure out the average. So if a team signs a player to a 7 year deal worth 7.2 million per, because the total is divided by 5 and not 7 ( the length of the deal). This contract would still qualify for the 4 first round picks. |

you missed one thing EK, if a player signs an offer sheet he will want the maximum years.
In the rules it's the total dollar value of the contract divided by 5 years, so if the player gets 7 years at 6 million that'll work out to 8.4 million, what's the compensation for that? |

The Blues never draft well and the picks they get never crack the lineup until the overpaid players leave—-see the crappy contracts as evidence. Army is going to sheet the Tkachuk boys back home to STL when the time comes. The next eight 1st rounders will be better spent this way versus developing players in the AHL maybe getting 3/4 line minutes on call-ups. |

lots in play..I guess its all about who the team is.if Arizona offers Marner max money, he still has to sign that offer..I doubt he would want to go to Arizona..most teams that would be attractive to a young player cannot afford the offer either..If Arizona or say Seattle offered Marner and he signed, I would be tempted to take the 4 1sts... |

I could see an offersheet going on a guy like Andreas Johnson or Kasperi Kapanen. Leafs might need to get creative to keep all their players. |

It just depends on if you think there is a higher chance of one or more Mariners in those four first rounders or four Riley Sheahans. |

Yes but you are assuming what Marner wants. Not all players like being in big market cities. Fans are fickle and in these big market cities you can go from Hero to villain over night. You also have to look at living costs. Toronto is one of if not the most expensive city to live in. A lot of players go to Florida because it is cheap and as it gets mentioned frequently, taxes are ridiculously low. It really all comes down to what is most important to Marner. Hell maybe he would want to leave just to not be under Matthews Shadow. He could be a guy that wants to go somewhere to be the "main" guy. Personally I would like to challenge myself and lead a bad team to a championship but at the same time I would likely want to win with a good team first just to have a championship win under my belt. |

Every year Ek says offer sheets are coming and every year they never do. Was Weber the last one? How long ago was that? |

Sure. Toronto kid doesn't want it stay at home, would rather play in Florida or Phoenix.
The ironic thing about your post is that you are doing the same thing you are accusing the previous poster of doing in your first sentence. |

So would I. 4 1st rounders from a team that is a perennial bottom feeder or expansion team? Okey dokey. |
