I remember reading they almost signed Parise, not Suter?? - EnzoD
Suter and his agent used Chicago to drive the price up when his agent was negotiating with Minnesota during his free agent period. If I remember they were trying to sign either one. Using theToews and Parise playing at the same school and Suter with his Uncle Gary playing with the Hawks back in the 90's connection. |

Suter is a vastly superior player to Seabrook at this point in their careers. Would’ve loved Suter, but glad we didn’t get Parise who has never been close to the level he was at when he and Kovalchuk carried NJ on their backs to the Cup Final. |

I don't think 15 pts -8 in 24 games is carrying your team to the finals. Both those teams were carried by their goaltending. I'm also glad Parise isn't on this Hawks team |

Stop winning already. It will give mgmt “false hope” they can sell this team as a playoff team to the “fans” and never make the major changes necessary to truly be competitive. And of course wanting to land in the top 2-3 in the draft. |

Goaltending for sure, but the entire offense was Kovy and Parise. The Cup Championship was won in OT game 7 when the puck went off leddy. Kings and Hawks were on another level than anyone else in 2014 |

The Devils and Kings met in 2012. I think you have your years mixed up.
2012 was when the 8 seeded Kings met the 6 seeded Devils in the finals because Brodeur and quick carried their teams all the way there. Brodeur LOST 5 games in those playoffs when he allowed 2 or less. |

Feels like he hits a new milestone/rung on the records ladder every game these days. So lucky to have seen him play.
@StatsCentre
Extending his points streak to 11 in a @NHLBlackhawks
win, Patrick Kane's 904 career points tie Gordie Howe for 5th most at age 30 or younger by a player with right wing as their natural position |

Agreed its just funny that neither of them signed with the us. That following spring we eleminated them in route to winning the cup. |

the wild can gag on those contracts...absurd when they were given...parise is 34 with 7 years left...parise is all class and great competitor but he was in the right place and right time to get that deal
but the wild will never sniff a cup with those two... |

Their issue is less Parise/Suter and more...nobody else, to be fair to those 2 excellent players.
Let us not forget what made the 3x Cup Champ Hawks was their depth of All-Star talent.
Kane, Toews,Hossa, Keith, Seabrook, Sharp, Byfuglien, Campbell, Hjallmarsson, Saad were all playing All Star level during the Cup runs. TEAMS win championships, as we know too well with a Hart Trophy finalist in the basement of the Central Division. |

Things I’d like to see during the remaining games this season:
1. Finish Strong - I’m not worried about the playoffs or a high draft pick. I want this group to find a way to maintain a winning atmosphere.
2. Trade Gus - I’m a Gus fan and I’m fine with what he brings to the team. I think he could bring a solid return and I don’t think he’ll be re-signed when his contract is up. That being said, I’d only trade him for a very good return.
3. Don’t trade Keith.
4. Trade Hayden - give the kid a chance to play more than 5-6 minutes per night
5. Play Delia as much as possible - he’s good but I’m not sold on him just yet, I’d like to see more.
6. Somehow trade for a solid, defensive minded centre for the bottom 6 |

I am not as big a fan of Strome as many of the posters on the Hawk blogs. We struggle every time he and his line are out there. He is no faster than Anisimov and probably less effective yet AA is continuously criticized while Strome is lauded for some reason. - 67hawks
Maybe it’s his 21 pts in 28 games as a Blackhawk vs AA’s 22 pts in 48 games, just sayin. |

It’s 23 in 29 now. Strome has given Hawks fans lots to be hopeful for. I’d still like to see him play more before making a judgment, but the early returns are better than expected.
Edit: Strome has 10 points in his last 10 games. |

Strome has been way better than anyone could have asked for so far, but he'll have to take the next step this upcoming summer with Cat and Kaner. This next offseason will tell us a lot about his desire to be a great player.

If he can improve his athleticism even slightly...he could be a bonafide scoring 2C with his frame and offensive abilities |

Delia has regressed a bit since the hot start. Whether that's due to the league scouting him more closely, or coming down to earth, hard to say. If it's about the scouting, then it's on Delia to make the next adjustment.
What kind of return is possible for Gus? I mentioned in a previous thread what Chiarelli paid for Kaberle in 2011. Is a return like that even possible, or is that more about Chiarelli? And how much of the PP success is due to Gus, as opposed to the system now used, or even the addition of Strome to the 1st unit? |

Agreed, Keith played well last night. - Justin Lowe
I don't know ... that wasn't exactly a typical D-man goal, and it was even less typical of a D man that is washed up... He looked good - but I mean you know people have to base the judgements on what a 35 year old d-man will do ... and I don't think the guy always gets a fair shake.
----
If it wasn't for the games in hand, I wouldn't really bet against this team sneaking in - only in the sense that, I saw a stat this game - Colliton's won-loss record. The team had an awful losing streak at the start of this transition ... it has been radically different for awhile now, and they are a team that it is tough to blow out of the rink.
Sure the Buffalo game was really a 1 goal game until that late goal to open things up to a 2 goal lead --- which then led to an empty netter and then Saad's late who cares goal (nice shot ... but well in game terms it wasn't a factor in the result...).
There was one shift out there for the Toews line (didn't result in a goal), but reminded me of that Kane/Panarin one against the Islanders in 2016 ... I mean those guys were dominant -awesome shift...
Tonight - I only caught the tail end of the first period's power play live (as live as 15,000 mile stream can be), caught the highlights though ... tough penalties to take for Minne - a DoG off of a blown challenge (not only did the goal count- now there is a power play to contend with ... makes for an interesting dilemma for coaches', and then the late in reg DoG -- which .. well isn't ideal.
The powerplay --- it has been a really interesting turn-around to watch.
