To be quite honest with you, this Sabres season feels like the season the Jets had in 2016 when everyone thought they were making the playoffs and finished in the bottom 10. Won the lottery and got Laine and the rest is history.

Jets kept all their picks and drafted extremely well.

A simple Sabres playoff game to take my now 9 year old grandson to seeing that he has never been to one.

If moves were made to better this roster by #DarcyPartDeux back in December, perhaps we'd still be in a playoff spot at the moment.

But nope.
We go from one guy that tossed around our depth and high round draft picks like whores at a brothel to another guy that holds into all of his 1st round picks like a homeless guy holds onto his ham sandwich?!?!

Can't we have someone inbetween?

Can't we have that GM that makes moves in November, December, er....all year round when necessary and not predictably only at the dead line?

Again, I didn't see anyone say anything about a "cup run" this year.

A simple playoff game would suffice.

If ROR was here the dressing room would be divided. Can we all agree that a hockey player can be “good” or “valuable” but not a good fit?

ROR is a good center BUT NOT ON THIS TEAM.

I think the problem with a ll the advanced stats afficionados and the Video game needs is they look at the numbers on paper or the screen, and ignore all the human interactions that go to making a team click.

Look at the 99 Sabres. On paper they sucked. In real life and on my 27inch tv they were a no goal away from winning it all.

2006 and 2007 Sabres... same thing. I love Briere and Drury but no one can honestly say they were Malkin and Crosby. Not even the same f-ing ballpark.

But somehow, they “clicked” and ROR, for whatever reason, didn’t click.

If it makes you feel better, consider ROR the penultimate experiment with “making” centers out of try-hards.

Leino, hodgson, Ott is not a centre, tankarenko, even Reinhardt.

Tried signing th “big name” or drafting losers who fell for some u known reason (spoiler alert- grigirenko sucked and Girgensons is a garbage plate of failed expectations)... didn’t work!

They didn’t finish worse enoogh to get the guy until Eichel. That happens and it’s no ones fault

Biggest mistake: not blowing it up after 2006 or 2007.

Think of any “Cinderella” team that exceeded expectations and lost in the finals or semis- even teams that won during that era by chance- Carolina cough cough. They didn’t listen to Chuck D and they believed their own hype. If you don’t win, re start. Oilers- 2006, and Sens- 2007. Detroit 2009, even the golden knights of last year.

People only care about the here and now. Nobody realizes in a few years we are going to have the same problem as Toronto and Winnipeg in terms of being cap strapped. But hey why have any first rounders on ELC filling out the bottom of the roster like Tampa, Winnipeg, and Toronto do. Seems to be working out for them.
