Maybe Phil should have the Sabres study the reasons for the Blues steady rise up the league since mid-December while his team has gone in the opposite direction.
From The Athletic..
But not only are the Blues limiting their opponents’ shots, they are also eliminating the high-danger opportunities that plagued them early in the season. According to Naturalstattrick.com, the team has 226 high-danger chances for and 126 high-danger chances against for a league-best 64.02 high-danger-chances-for percentage in that span.
How that has translated into goal scoring and goal prevention: In those 20 games, the Blues have netted 30 high-danger goals for while allowing a league-low 14 high-danger goals against, for a percentage of 68.18. Because of that, in the chart below from Sean Tierney of @ChartingHockey, you can see that starting in mid-December, the Blues’ expected goals for began trending upward.
Take care of your own end first, stop hanging your goalies out to dry, force other teams into mistakes, then capitalize (they probably continue to struggle to score, but that is a known issue that needs to be corrected through upgrades). |

I agree. I think this is something, but still really want a trade (small or large) involving Sabres Roster player(s). |

All of this could be condensed into a much shorter message:
"Get better defensive talent."

I think more appropriately.
"Play the damn system as intended"
Blues didn't make any personnel changes save for the Goalie, but his role isn't to reduce the high-danger opportunities, rather make timely saves when they do occur.

These might different if I typed them five minutes from now, but I’d try:
Smith-Eichel-Pominville
Skinner-Rodrigues-Reinhart
Sheary-Mittelstadt-Thompson
Girgensons-Larsson-Okposo

I am convinced more then ever that we need to make a coaching change. I do like Phil, and I think he will be a good coach but IMO he is lost. This Team needs a hard A$$ coach with a winning history.
It is OK to lose but to get curb stomped 7-3 at home to the second last team in the NHL was just BAD. There was no desperation to that game. It looked like we just did not give a poop...
Ullmark should play the majority of the way out. Hutton was a good signing and is a great back up goalie, but a starter he is not. He has looked every bit the Bad back up for 2 months now.
