Marleau and a first for Kruger, Kunitz and Hayden!!!!!! - LAHawk
They'll probably want to keep Marleau around for his last year. He also has a full NMC (as does Kunitz)
Instead, how about Kappanen, a 2nd and Horton's contract for Perlini (or other replacement level forward) and a 3rd at the draft (Toronto gets to keep Kap for their playoff run)
Trading both Horton and Kappanen will solve a lot of their cap problems (LTIR maximization and Kaps new contract) and then Marleaus 6.25M will be off after 2019/20 as well |

Why? Their first will be in the Mid 20's. Marleau is 100. I don't see the value for the Hawks. - Elbows15

Big deal. Still have to carry next season. And a mid first rounder isn't enough. IMO.

There's value to be had. If the Hawks aren't going to spend in FA (or wanna spend and are willing to eat some of his salary for the last year of his deal next year) you gain a 1st out of it. Good prospects come from the 20 range. We got Beaudin and people seem pretty excited about him - Savetheembers33
Sure, there is value. That isn't enough. IMO. |

Gotta think that Toronto is gonna try n do something like this at the end of the year to clear cap space and fill out their roster. Idk it's gonna be super fun to watch them try and figure it out this offseason ESPECIALLY if they don't win the cup and their fans are freaking out.
Be thankful for our 3 Cups guys cuz those days are long gone to be set up for a long run at multiple Cups...unless your Tampa and worked whatever voodoo or soul selling deal they made to get those guys to take deals under their value |

I'd consider it if they aren't gonna be players in FA cuz adding more ingredients to the cupboard is only gonna help the team either in the short term (more good prospects or high draft picks equals more trade opportunities). Plus his contract is off the books after next year anyways. It's the same with the idea of taking someone like Callahan from Tampa for one of their top prospects and a pick. Help them out by adding more pieces to your puzzle to work with.
It's a moot point though cuz A.) he's got a NTC. and B.) Toronto already traded their 1st this year to LA so it wouldn't even be until next years draft and while having another pick to work with would help in trade talks it'd likely be more helpful for next trade deadline IF we were even in a position to add a piece.

I will add once again, haven't won a cup! Tired of hearing about Tampa until they win. Everyone keeps pointing to what a great job they do, but at some point, you actually have to win one. I know they have a great record, but still don't think they're better than Toronto, Washington or Pitt in a 7 game series. We'll see I guess.
Think some really don't appreciate what it took to win 3 like the Hawks and Pens have. |

what makes you think that? They are the best team in the league top to bottom and the standings reflect that. Tampa has a vastly superior defense group to all 3 of those teams, better scoring depth, and a better goaltender. It really comes down to Stamkos and Kucherov being more clutch in the playoffs. Hard to find a better Big 3 on defense in the East than Hedman-McDonagh-Stralman. JT Miller is a 1st liner on A LOT of teams (definitely in Chicago) and he's playing 3rd/4th line in TB. |

Kovalchuk on the trading block and Duchene to Trashville??? - EnzoD
Not surprised by Kovi. No one liked that deal this summer and they're gonna have a hell of a time trading that contract unless a team REALLY thinks they can get the most outta him which I don't see how given his track record.
Duche to Trashville makes sense. They wanted him last year before he went to Ottawa and they got Turris out of it. They got plenty of pieces to add a guy like him though I figured they'd go for a W like Simmons, Stone, or Ferlund to round out their Top 6. We'll see

I appreciate it as a diehard Hawks fan my whole life trust me on that.
Obviously they haven't won one yet, the point is that they don't have to face as bad of a cap crunch as some teams do because their guys are signed to good deals and thus can at least be competitive each season while they have their best players locked up. That's all you can really ask for each year from your team

I guess its just last couple years in my mind. Two years ago they didn't make the playoffs, last year thought they folded and were manhandled by Wash in the playoffs. Think their speed is neutralized in playoff hockey. Stamkos could dominate and change my opinion, but I'm used to seeing him go straight to the milk carton come playoff time.

The East is Tampa's to lose this year, especially with Braydon Point taking another step forward as a high end 200ft center. Does not mean they will get over the hump, but if not this year...then when?? |

Hmmm ... maybe something like Keith ($1.5M retained so only $4M cap hit for Toronto) for Kapanen and Horton's contract.

Tampa lost in 7 to Washington? How is that manhandled?
Washington was a team of destiny last year.

I wouldn't want to be stuck with Zaitsev who has a cap hit of $4.5M for 5 more years.

Given the rhetoric around here about your namesake...I'd assume you'll be disappearing come playoff time?? |

Agree. Used to hear the same talk when Ottawa dominated the Leafs in regular season. Then the play-offs came. |
