Who cares if they win cups...as long as they play the young players and have a good PP...its all that matters! - PatShart
Huh? I don't understand this comment. |

Winning cups is overrated.
It's all about playing young players and being sure the PP is the best.
Q hated young players and his PP sucked. So he sucked. Anyone can go out and win the championships he did. |

I never said that, this is about giving JC a chance, his defensive approach a chance but so many here have no patience, the instant gratification crowd. There's no denying the PP is better than n it EVER has been with Q running this team, EVER. Do you remember what this team looked like in the beginning of the season? At least they are in games now the defense was a complete poop show. BTW the PK looks better than it has in the beginning of the season or even last year now if 7 can do a better job it has potential |

what makes you think that? They are the best team in the league top to bottom and the standings reflect that. Tampa has a vastly superior defense group to all 3 of those teams, better scoring depth, and a better goaltender. It really comes down to Stamkos and Kucherov being more clutch in the playoffs. Hard to find a better Big 3 on defense in the East than Hedman-McDonagh-Stralman. JT Miller is a 1st liner on A LOT of teams (definitely in Chicago) and he's playing 3rd/4th line in TB. - EnzoD
It's the popular thing to say when your team sucks now and you're jealous of the new kids on the block. Lol |

LOSING a REAL NHL netminder to a snowmobile concussion, and the fact that most games since last December 2017 involved the remaining goalies, both vet and tyros, giving up crucial tying or lead squelching goals broke the backs of the team while still trying to win matches.
Certainly, the CAP system and how it crushes Cup winners and challengers has something to do with it, but winning IS supposed to ensure the guys that got you there ARE rewarded and it seems unfair the the CAP era brought a post season full of subtractions right after the first Cup.
JUST ASK the GMs of teams who haven't won a thing, about how the CAP is pushing them to WIN now b/c the subtractions & decisions are coming, as their window to winning is already FULLY opened, but closing.
I agree that it was clear the hours before the 2017 Draft in Chicago, when they made more $ decisions with the Panarin launch and the Hammer departure (to attempt to get a long term upgrade(cough) and cap security in Murphy, ...
that Quenneville didn't leave his opinions on both deals dormant, and probably should have been asked what he wanted to do THEN, just like Pierre Lebrun thinks they have done with Seabrook and should do with Keith.
This “LeBrun idea” was stated here @ the Athletic months ago “…(the hawks management approaching their big 4 core) and might be where Pierre got his “facts.”)
I am not gonna bite on Seabrook's rep publicized it.
I think the Hawks have identified fast handed players with great understanding and some ability to play the morphed way the game is going to continue to be played, but.
it is a BIG PRESUMPTION that Ian Mitchell, Adam Boqvist and Nicholas Beaudin are walking in and making the defensive side better, well Beaudin is fairly solid for an undersized junior player....
Picking where champions and mid round first rounders do not provide any guarantees. no matter how good Mark Kelley is.
You have to get luck and pull the true dominant prospects out of the top 8 players available, and hop to climb lose to the draft's top by way of the draw.
The progress of most cellar dwellers have been based on that, although the Isles got lucky, in that their goaltender and coaching make them the anomaly not the new norm.
You hope the kids continue to improve, but unless impact comes up front in the next couple drafts, this is the natural progression of NHL winning in a CAP era. And blaming StanBo, Q or Seabrook doesn't achieve much change... |

It doesn't take a genius to figure out that the Leafs are going to lose players and won't be able to add to this team.
The hope is that their young defensemen step up. |

Hmmm ... maybe something like Keith ($1.5M retained so only $4M cap hit for Toronto) for Kapanen and Horton's contract. - EbonyRaptor
Or we just offersheet Kapanen for 4 million? A cap hit that Toronto cannot afford and it only gives up a 2nd pick. |

What NHL comparable(s) would you have for the guys ranked 3-7 where I expect the Hawks to draft??? Who do you think is the most NHL ready outside of Hughes/Kakko? |

I read that Hughes might not be nhl ready his draft year and will likely end up a right winger . |

Tampa lost in 7 to Washington? How is that manhandled?
Washington was a team of destiny last year. - TrueGrit
I meant physically. By game 7 Tampa was beat up and worn down.
I'm not really here to debate Tampa, just asking that before they are annointed as a the greatest organization in the league, (and as he Hawks is continually beat down here as a bunch of idiots) could they at least win one cup?
That's my only point. |

Before answering, Hughes will be kept ion the team that drafts hims ropster next season, by virtue of his speed hands and scoring especially as a power play generator/scorer.
Granted it Hughe's draft a head above but I LOVE so many of the kids in this one.
The second tier is the finnish kid. and he is really good smart and some think he can be an NHL centre, I see him as a big wing.
The third tier are Cozens, Dach and a bevy of centres ALL who really look like NHLers....Turcotte, Newhook, Zegras and Vasily Podkolzin and the USABoldy who is a fabulous wing with no holes and plenty upside.
I haven't been here because I have been working dilligently watching this draft crop, and am very impressed.
There is something written on most of the guys I mentioned on Draftsite, if you click on a player's name.
I have a lot to add and lots will be up in the next month it is a process that my life gets in the way of and if I had the ability to type with more than two fingers i would be closer to having round one complete
I am finished with a complete list that I thin k gets drafts in the first round and another 250 that dont make the cut.
I heard the NHL Centrak scoutiung head say the draft tails off at aroung 17....
I don't see it that way...I think there is more than one round a really fine upside talent.... |

it's good BUT I'm beginning to think we will not have to worry about Hughes vs. Kakko. Anaheim is dropping like a rock. Other teams will start to float, im now sensing. 8 to. 10th in lotto |

For anyone who cares about former hawks, SCH says that Oduya will play in Thailand.
On WGN pregame, funny to hear Seabs talk about the hawks pp. "It's been great. You got guys like Kaner, Gus, and kitty cat finding the back of the net." |

Blackhawks to host first ever fantasy camp on March 22-24. Cool gifts like personalized uniforms and playing in the game versus the Avalanche in your choice of either Jokiharju’s spot on the blueline or 4th line with Kunitz and Kruger (must change your last name to one that starts with K if it doesn’t already). |
