I hear ya, and you're not wrong, I just found it curious how much more wide open that side is when he's on the ice vs. when he isn't. |

You could make the argument that he is covering his man (LD) from looking at the heat chart. Part of the problem is the 2 centers he had spent most of the season with currently are 1st and 10 among forwards in allowing HDCA. The one he is playing with now is 6th. OR was when I last looked a couple of weeks ago.
Not to absolve Kane of any of the fault here, but its just reflective of a team wide problem.
They can be fine for stretches but then it looks like a keystone kops routine |

I know D sucks but does anyone have the advanced metrics of high danger chances, Goals against prior to Murphy and Dahlstrom being our 2nd pair and after Murphy and Dahlstrom in our lineup?
It was mentioned that we only have given up less than 3 goals twice in the last 12 games though... - Popsghostly
Good question. I would be interesting to see the metrics on our defense for the first 33 games and the last 20 games. LBR where are you when we need you. (My guess is she is now employed by an NHL team or the like in their Advanced Metrics Department.) |

i concur, but i wonder how much the change from Zone to MTM has impacted everything
i will have to say although they still look suseptable playing the MTM, the number of 3 on 1, 2 on 1s and breakaway chances has gone way down in past 2 mos? |

Just going by the observation method, it does appear they aren't getting hammered quite as much with the play from below the goal line going out to the slot.
There are still far too many times when the forwards have no idea WTF they are doing for me. |

I agree with that also - too much of 3/ 4 players chasing the puck into the corner/boards |

Not sure this man on man D zone scheme that JC is running is all that effective. Would figure a zone type of set up would be easier to run. |

Scott Power just tweeted that he asked Seabrook about being asked to waive his NMC and Seabrook said he wasn't asked. What gives? There is often the feeling there is some underlying subterfuge with the Hawks front office even when there is no direct proof. |

Regarding the Kane charts, is there a difference when Kane plays with Toews versus when he's with Strome and Debrincat?
Regarding Teuvo, I'm not sure he really had a chance to reach his ceiling here. He was someone who really needed Finns here in order to thrive. Part of his uptick during the 2015 playoffs was due to Timonen being here. In Carolina, he has Finnish teammates, so it's not a problem there. It wasn't worth the price to keep him here versus on a Finnish friendly team. |

It has always been that way. Many on here won't acknowledge it but he either doesn't give any effort or have a clue in his own end and you can see it by watching the game. These stats just back up what has been happening his whole career. |

To those trying to rationalize having the Blackhawks draft 15th or 16th instead of 4th or 5th... maybe you don't recall the Red Wings?
The Red Wings kept their glorious streak alive year after year, netting themselves plenty of middling draft picks, They've been an irrelevant franchise since 2013's Playoff Loss to the Hawks. They had the same 'anything can happen' mentality that some statistically challenged folks have, and got routinely trounced by the Bruins, then Lightning, and Lightning again in the first round.
Their middling 1st round picks during those streak years ended with: Mantha, Larkin, the other Svechnikov, and Dennis Cholowski.
Had the Wings embraced a decent amount of tanking during those years and moved 9 spots up in the draft, those picks would have been: Sam Morin, Jake Virtanen, Rantanen, and Logan Brown.
Rantanen is quickly becoming an elite player, Virtanen is a bust, Morin looks promising in Philadelphia, and Logan Brown is still a high prospect in Ottawa. I'd definitely take the second crop over the Wings true picks. Not to mention the amount of picks the Wings COULD have had if they had been earlier in the drafts.

With the caveat that this team isn't making the playoffs, I would give them a punchers change against both teams that finish third in either division. They also could beat Nashville. Would they? Probably not but Nashville is a one line team as currently constructed. - Elbows15
Playoffs are a magic time where a goalie standing on his head can get a team to the final and then turn back into a pumpkin and get either swept or lose 4 games to 1. |

I can't think of one example where a goalie on a really bad team was intrumental in the team winning 12 playoff games. Do you have one? |

Virtanen, Morin and Logan Brown? Pretty sure those guys wouldn't help the Red Wings. Virtanen is meh at best and the other two haven't sniffed the NHL. |

They've won 4 straight and are still at 4th in the draft lottery....there is no way they make the playoffs or finish worse/better than 7/8th in the lottery IMO. Too poor of defense, absolutely no scoring depth, and average goaltending. |

OK, let's entertain your concept that we should tank (I don't personally agree with it, but I'm willing to discuss). The players aren't going to willingly go on the ice an drop for a draft slot. So you shift that onus to the FO. Is the idea that you trade away your best players to drop in the standings? Well, the only one you really have a shot with is Keith. All the other good players either make too much, or have NMC's (or both).
So what is your solution to get the Hawks to actually tank? Does mgmt tell Colliton to bench Toews, Kane, ADB and play Martinsen, Kunitz, Hayden, etc? Heck, they already sent down one of (if not the) best defenseman to Rockford. It's fine to say it would be better to have a higher draft pick, but there are so many factors that are out of control in that regard, that I think it's silly to entertain.
Build the group you have, acquire improvements where and when you can, and find ways to make the players you have as successful as possible. |
