Reached by phone about an hour after Seabrook spoke, Friedman said: "I am very, very uncomfortable with being on the other side of Brent Seabrook on this. But I understand, at least once this season there was a conversation between team, player and agent about his future in Chicago. That's all I can really say. At some point this season, it happened."
- walleyeb1

It is very easy to discuss his future in Chicago without ever specifically asking him if he’d waive the NMC.

TT is a decent hockey player, but he is NEVER going to carry a team. TT gets a whole bunch of "somebody" points. What I mean by that is, in a typical NHL game the average goals per game for each team is around 3 goals, so "somebody" is going to score. TT is 3rd among Carolina forwards in ice-time. Get enough ice-time and throw enough crap at the net and somebody will score.

TT has 12 goals, take one of the boards favorite whipping boys Saad who has 17 goals and you can begin to see similar stats/results. Put skilled guys out there and they will tend to find some points. Doesn't make them dominant or mean they can carry/drive a team.

Of his 45 points this year, 31 are primary points (goals or primary assists).

Those aren't the numbers of a guy just throwing crap at the net.

There's a difference of 46 minutes and 16 points between TT and Saad.

In 46 more minutes, opponents have managed 103 FEWER shot attempts when Teuvo is on the ice than when Saad is, while Teuvo's team has 243 more shots FOR.

Saad is a better shooter, for sure, and certainly more physical. But that's about it. Their ice time isn't so different that a 16 point discrepancy can just be dismissed because of ice time.

They're separated by .2 minutes per game.

Again, not saying Teuvo is a guy who will carry the load offensively on his own, but he's certainly not a passenger like you're implying.

Is this even-strength only? I don't know if TT kills penalties, which would explain why Saad is on the ice for more shots against.

Teravainen has more points over the last 3 years than any Blackhawk not named Kane or Toews and he just signed a 5 year deal at $5.4 Mill per.

But okay, yeah, he's nothing I guess.

That makes D cat a 7ish million dollar player. Probs over 6 for Strome if he keeps his current pace.

How many of TT's 19 primary assists are on the PP or passes to Aho?

Again, I am not saying he is a bad player, he definitely has skills. I also think his hockey IQ is pretty high, which also helps him get points. Given a choice of the left wings in the league though, he is probably middle of the pack if given a choice.

TT kills penalties now (he didn't to start the year)

But this is all-situations.

You're right, though, that the PK has skewed things.

Saad has played 82.5 minutes shorthanded, while TT has played only 33.8 minutes on the PK.

Saad has a CF of 25 and a CA of 138 while on the PK.
TT has a CF of 16 and a CA of 36 while on the PK. Teuvo also has 3 SHP vs Saad's 1.

Teuvo also has twice as much time on the PP, which skews the numbers there as well (he has 3x as many PP points as Saad)

Even strength primary points between the two are identical, which is interesting, though Teuvo still has a substantial lead in point, goal differential and Corsi%.

My take on that, I guess, is that at even strength they're pretty similar, and Saad probably shouldn't be killing penalties.

Gotta say I'm actually pretty shocked by how little PP time Saad has gotten. Who the hell are they giving time to?

Ill take Saad and his size, strength and speed over TT, especially come playoff time.

Kane Toews Dcat Strome Gus and they're on fire. Only reason they're not in the cellar. If they wanted to tank they'd trade Gus and kill the pp

It's been an issue for the Hawks since Toews/Hossa/Kane were all on the same team. Who gets bumped to the second unit?
You can't really not have Toews/Kane, and you need at least one Dman. That leaves two spots. The Hawks love Debrincat on the PP, so that really leaves one spot for either Strome, Saad, another defenseman, or somebody else.

Remember when our biggest problem was Marian Hossa being on Unit 2? Good times.

Do you guys just not use a 2nd PP unit all that much? I guess if I had Kane on my top unit I probably wouldn't either, but still...

To answer the other question, the Canes have scored 26 goals when TT is on the ice and Aho is not. They've given up 8.

96 was John Vanbiesbrouck. Luongo hadn't been drafted yet.

Thanks. I recall that team wasn't terribly talented, couldn't even remember the goalie! Jovocop was their star?

Kane has been double-shifted most pp opportunities. It's not until the 50-40 second mark left of pp time will the first unit get off for Keith, Seabs, Arty, Saad, and Kahun (?) I'm not too sure on the last name, but I think it's him, when Kane doesn't stay out there.

It used to be ready aim fire, now its ready fire aim. Aim = fact check. And its true on all news sources.

Old journalism schoolbooks always had this from Marshal McLuhan (he is the cornestone of media journalism theory): "the medium is the message."

Nowadays adroit sports reporters are often condescending and snobbish. They think they are the messsge. Worse yet, the message is ever less accurate or reliable as reported in all media, not just social media.
A sign of the times. Powerful interests corrupt the free flow of information. It even creeps into sports reporting in one way or anorher.

Thanks BINGO.

I don't follow the Canes close enough to know who is on their first line, first PP unit, etc. I can only make inferences based on TOI, etc.

I know the season started with Aho, Ferland, Teravainen on the same line, which gave him great line mates. Not sure what is the mix now.

knott should be in rockford noel should be getting more playing time. And why is moutrey even on the team. 1 point few pim bringing absolutely nothing. Why not have Conor Moynihan get a shot who has been that aggressive physically but has put up some points. Or pick up a random enforcer type from the echl like kale kessey or mitch moroz.

I don't believe Tallon is giving a NTM or guaranteed salary for any lengthy term. But who knows what is in their fax machine. And where did the reporter get that (accurate?) Information

This had me laughing outloud. Excellent summation of the rollercoaster we have been on for two years. If you don’t recognize yourself in some small measure in here, you are lying.

Since they acquired Nino it's been

Niederreiter - Aho - Williams
Ferland - Wallmark - Teravainen

Kind of an ugly 2nd line, but we're running short on centres so Teuvo does the heavy lifting for them at both ends of the ice.

I find it interesting the Hawks FO asked 7 if he'd like to be traded?
This tells me where their mind set is. I know some are all about loyalty to the player, that contract is guaranteed so if he sits in the press box as a healthy scratch, fine by me. They don't owe him playing time if he can't play NHL hockey anymore

I sure hope there is at least 1 compliance buy out in 2020. I also wonder if they asked Keith first so this way they made it look like they were asking both veteran dmen. I really don't believe Keith is going anywhere, Seabrook unfortunately is starting to look like Scuderi
