I can say with confidence that he is finally our 2nd best forward. If he and Mitts can keep this up, and the Mittelstadt we've seen the last 7 games is the new norm, we are a playoff lock next year.

Datsyuk was only a cap hit. No real money was involved. Vitale was still owed 1.3 million. AZ doesn't care about the cap, they only care about real money. So to them it was 2nd round plus sending 1.3 million to move up 4 spots.

It is the same for Bolland and Hossa. Both contracts are covered by insurance. If AZ thought for even a second that either would actually play again, they wouldn't have taken on the contract. Between Bolland and Hossa they have almost 11 million in cap space, where they don't spend a penny in real money. For a cap floor team that is gold to them.

Okposo has 4 years left at a cap hit of 24 million, but is still owed 20 million real money. AZ doesn't touch that contract.
