I got torn to shreds a year or two ago on here when I suggested Eichel's biggest weakness was his endurance.

Maybe there's a reason he doesn't play 25 minutes a night.

Okposo for Lucic ? I only say because we could use more grit on the forward lines. We have it on D with Bogo and McCabe. Same term and money left.

I do it and I think so does EDM

Skinner is an elite goal scorer but Reinahrt is a more rounded player. Skinner has average at best playmaking skills. Reinhart will score more goals then Skinner will set up someone else to score. It’s not like Reinhart blows him out of the water by any means. They are both great players. I still think if we are a cup contender though they both have to be our 3rd and 4th best forwards respectively. Whether or not that’s Casey developing into a star or us acquiring one/signing in free agency or via the draft. If Reinahrt brings the effort he brought tonight though 50 games a year then we are in really good shape when Dahlin, Mitts, and Thompson peak.

Whoa, I wouldn't go that far. He is an excellent shooter. A pure sniper. He is an inconsistent player. I have always been a fan of his since he was drafted, actually but seriously, he isn't an elite goal scorer.

You must've missed the Flames game where he was out for over a minute, looked back like he was going to dump it off and then change(which he absolutely should've done) but then he turned on the jets and blew by Giordano like he wasn't even there and scored the OT winner.

And he overextended a shift to spring McCabe for the Rheinhardddrt goal. The way that kid works, I hardly think endurance is a problem.

The team goes as Jack goes. He had his hand in 3 goals although he only had 2 to show for it on the stat sheet. He is the best player in the world at entering the opposing teams zone with possession. I liked on the PK when he turned a 1 on 2 into a half breakaway by using his speed as well.

That’s what separates him from a guy like Matthews imo. Eichel does so many more things that don’t go noticed on the stat sheet that Matthews doesn’t. I also think Eichel’s style will hold up better in the playoffs which we’ll see at some point whether this year or next.

I was wondering if the changes in the line mates would dilute the scoring - after all we’ve been told that only jack drives his own line.

Maybe we learned that we have more talent than some think (of course we need more) and the key is finding more pairs with dynamic chemistry.

Jason Botterill, GM Buffalo Sabres

The Sabres have missed the playoffs seven straight times and haven’t won a playoff round since 2007. Long-suffering Sabre fans felt that maybe the playoff thaw would come this season when they reeled off 10 straight wins early in the season. But the team flattened out before rebounding slightly around the All-Star break. They still remain very much in the hunt in the Eastern Conference, but they definitely need some additional scoring up front to support the dynamic duo of Jack Eichel and Jeff Skinner, who have a combined 48 goals and 101 points through 51 games. After that it’s a pretty significant drop and coach Phil Housley has been doing some major revamping of the forward group in the hopes of generating more offense.

The biggest pressure GM Jason Botterill will likely feel is externally from antsy fans – and maybe from himself, especially if the team continues its zig-zag approach to the standings. Organizationally the team preached patience and waiting for its homegrown talent to coalesce into a Stanley Cup contender. That makes sense unless you think making a significant add sends the message to your dressing room that it’s time to be a winner. Of course, there are no guarantees if you add an offensive piece like an Artemi Panarin (why not dream the big dream?) or Jakub Silfverberg or even a Mats Zuccarello, but if you don’t add and you don’t make the playoffs, well, it’s a lot easier to second-guess being conservative.

The Sabres have lots of good prospects coming and the defense is young but able, led by rookie of the year candidate Rasmus Dahlin, so the future will look bright regardless. “I don’t think (Botterill) is under much pressure internally,” one former NHLer and longtime analyst said. “The fans will be wanting help at the deadline but the organization has a plan and I don’t think they will steer away from that.” Doesn’t mean they shouldn’t. Right?

Now if he would have used Mitts in the middle of Sam and Skinner when Jack was out, he would have had a head start on finding a potential solution to distribute the scoring accrost multiple lines.
Funny it took Phil 51 games to realize that whil it was productive to have an excellent 1st line, it may be more productive to distribute the scoring. Ryan Stimson of The Athletic suggest as much in early November.

IMHO, I don't think Botts is on any kind of hot seat. I'm quite sure he laid out a plan on a timeline when Pegula hired him, and don't think he would be dumb enough to suggest he could drive the roster he inherited into a playoff team in season 2.
That said, given their position in the standings, I do think there is pressure to improve the roster to see if the team can continue to play meaningful games into March. Not a hotseat, just a why not take advantage of where they are and see what happens ... it is a very good development opportunity they find themselves in.

IMHO, I don't think Botts is on any kind of hot seat. I'm quite sure he laid out a plan on a timeline when Pegula hired him, and don't think he would be dumb enough to suggest he could drive the roster he inherited into a playoff team in season 2.
That said, given their position in the standings, I do think there is pressure to improve the roster to see if the team can continue to play meaningful games into March. Not a hotseat, just a why not take advantage of where they are and see what happens ... it is a very good development opportunity they find themselves in.

Call up Detroit then and package Beaulieu and the Blues 2nd rounder for Nyquist. Add a third if you have to. Making a big move at the deadline is, more often then not, a disaster for the team that makes the move unless your Pittsburgh and your trading for Kessel. I'd say, make a smart move, versus define it as small.
I generally agree that there are a fair number of deadline deals that either don't move the needle, or cost a decent asset and don't provide help past the current season/playoffs. Stastny for example ladt year...helped for their playoffrun, didn't attain the ultimate goal, and then was gone leaving a hole ... cost a 1st+
A smart move in my mind is more a hockey trade that provides both short-term and long-term help.
I hope that is where Botts focus is.

Agreed that he isn't on the hot seat internally. Like the article said, maybe he is on an external hot seat.

They can't keep changing things up every 2-3 years. Allow the man to draft and develop his guys.
