Bergy quit on the team for whatever reason, and to the best of my knowledge HE agreed to terminate the remainder of his contract, meaning the decision was mutual, why would the Sabres look bad??
I am just having a hard time understanding why any player in the league would be pissed off at the Sabres..... - hehateme
I’m thinking it might be that the Sabres immediately jumped on the opportunity to get out from under the contract. With good reason. However some players may take it the wrong way that they did not immediately offer help. That said, nobody really knows what happened behind closed doors but the brass and the player. |

Without being offensive, can I ask your source for this? Is it word of mouth or is this reported somewhere? - RhinoFan
Word of mouth.
Hockey dad with some connections
He has mentioned many of the ek9 indiscretions
Once I heard about jbotts yelling at the whole team , coaches included. It made more sense.
Not sure if true, but I could see some of the veterans putting themselves in his shoes. Being disappointed for his family's future. Millions of $
Sabres had every right to waive him, but it was a rare situation. Suspending him with some counseling might have been an alternative plan. Especially if he were good at hockey still. |

I brought up this same point a few weeks ago and some dildo on here came back with “Why would the Berglund situation look bad on the organization?”. - Pairo11
I literally laughed out loud at "dildo".
Thanks. |

There could be a lot more to the situation.
Sounds like he was having some borderline depression/ mental health issues.
He quit on them as players, but the Sabres quit on him as a person too.
Opposite of okposo . Where there was great concern.
And lehner with jbotts still checking on him after he left town. |

Skinner is going to have ryan Reeves do his Laundry when he's moved for the Vegas 1st and pirri. - Boss34
If they do that, they better immediately spend that first to unload Okposo. Idc about the 5th 1st in 2 years. Use the first to unload Okposo and you go very aggressively for Hall and Stone - who you can now afford |

Would you trade okposo and skinner for a 7th round pick? Hypothetical?
I wouldn't. Okposo is still sorta an nhl player- kinda |

I think the Sabres have shown concern for their players and former players as you mentioned. IMO Bergy may have absolutely had some depression issues that should be taken very seriously but I think he may have went about it in a very poor way, He quit on his team, Took is ball and went home, whatever analogy you want to use.... but who knows, the truth is always somewhere in the middle... |

Bob McKenzie projecting Auston Matthews' extension for 5 years with an AAV of $11.5M - BareMetal
that would make him a free agent after wouldn't it? Interesting... They are going to be spending a lot of money here in the near future... Mitch is going to be pretty darn close numbers wise I would think. |

I agree with you.
Just wonder how the players really felt. Sabres had every right, but definitely jumped quickly.
Its business, but feelings could be hurt. |

It is tough to really say if Eichel is better than Matthews or vice versa, but here are some things that stand out to me...
Eichel 0.9 pts/game
Matthews 0.98 pts/game
Eichel $10m per year for 8(!) years
Matthews $11.5 for 5 years
Matthews has had (by far) a better team around him each of his years, so the points difference is not as vast as it may seem on a team that is coached to be more offensive then the Sabres.
So I may want Eichel more than Matthews, mainly due to the cost difference and years of contract. - Lilroot9
Much different players.... Matthews is a goal scorer.... Jack is a possession guy, can you imagine how bad this team would be if jack couldn't skate as well as he does? there's a handful of guy in the NHL that are great possession guys Jack is one of them. |

You really want okposo gone.
Like Michael said he's on pace for 34 points.
With no center help, until tonight

Skinner could come back. If he doesn't want to, go for Hall or Stone. Or 2 out of the 3. Duchene on a 5 year deal. Eberle and Stone. It would give us way more options to overhaul the winger group which should be the priority |

Skinner 5 years 50 million?
Who says no?
Skinner or sabres? - Boss34
sabres.... I think they say no to anything over 8.5.... Personally I think we are going to end up trading skinner, just can't see him sticking around for this part 4 rebuild. |

Look at what Toronto did to Robidas, Lupul, Clarkson. Has that made people not want to play there?
Robidas works for the team now |

I agree, unless we are right in the playoff race at the deadline.
Trading skins would crush this fanbase.
If we are out, it's ground hog day. Were all used to the routine |

My guy who plays video games with the Zamboni driver at the penguins practice arena said Malkin was speaking very highly of the quality of blue cheese in Buffalo. Sounds like a very positive sign. |
