Agreed that he isn't on the hot seat internally. Like the article said, maybe he is on an external hot seat.

They can't keep changing things up every 2-3 years. Allow the man to draft and develop his guys.

Making a big move at the deadline is, more often then not, a disaster for the team that makes the move unless your Pittsburgh and your trading for Kessel. Make a small move, or let the team decide their fate imo.

I'd say, make a smart move, versus define it as small.
I generally agree that there are a fair number of deadline deals that either don't move the needle, or cost a decent asset and don't provide help past the current season/playoffs. Stastny for example ladt year...helped for their playoffrun, didn't attain the ultimate goal, and then was gone leaving a hole ... cost a 1st+
A smart move in my mind is more a hockey trade that provides both short-term and long-term help.
I hope that is where Botts focus is.

Posters have been crying for a hockey trade that provides both short and long term but realistically 31 teams want to make that kind of trade. There are really only 4 teams that you can stick a knife in right now in terms of playoff hopes. Even the Oilers and Ducks have a relevant chance even though they are brutal. 4 sellers, 27 buyers. Unless we can convince the Ducks to give us Kase, Rakell, or one of the young d-men or a trade with the Kings for Toffoli or Kempe I put the odds at 5% of a trade like that happening.

Ya, the focus at the deadline is heavily weighted towards rentals for sure.
Interesting though, I read an article that said it is a Buyers market and a flood of supply has weakened the expected returns.

I would not expect a block-buster 6 player trade, nor would I expected a major headliner, but could see Botts finding a partner for a hockey trade for a middle six player.
