Honestly i like the idea of taxing things like alcohol and tobacco, now Canada can tax pot, is a great idea Taxing fuel and supposedly that's suppose to pay for the upkeep of the roads and bridges.

Depends on the jurisdiction because that fuel tax isn't enough on its own, but it does help keep your provincial and municipal taxes down a little bit.

Time for a rational approach to taxation.

Go back to the beginning - figure out what kind of tax structure would be best for the US / Canada - what to tax (income, sales/VAT, user fees, etc.) - how much should come from each - develop a plan to get there. There is a need to understand the economic and other social ramifications of the tax structure.

One of the problems (especially on local state and municipal taxes) is that there is a jerry-built structure in place that just kind of grew - and if new revenues are needed (and I know some will say cut government spending - yes, figure out a rational way to get that into the picture) - the politicians just look for new things to tax, without understanding the effects that the new tax will have.

Same with government spending - just cut, never mind the effects of the cuts.

It would be nice to be able to just start over and develop a rational, effective tax system. Can't do it now - too many entrenched pieces - but we can develop the goals and the plan to get there.

Complicated. But doable.

Completely agree, and you need watchdogs who manage the money, way too many people who are in politics don't know how to manage a checkbook. I mean look look at the Canadian Teachers Pension fund, they've got a clue.

That is why you don't hear too much from ISIS anymore, (Besides the fact they have been dealt with properly), is they just look at the new breed of green millenial moron politicians, then chuckle and laugh, knowing if any of that takes hold the country will implode.

If that law was in place, would we have had to pay taxes on Rosival and Handzuis back in the day?

A study by AAA noted that at 20 degrees, an electric car looses 40% of its driving range if you use the heater, and if it is 95, 20%

As a hockey fan, how cool is it that the playoff push starts on Feb 7th?

For Hawks, will be interesting to see how they react to a game that means something?

Shush you hater.

There you go injecting logic again.

Since we are about 3 years outside of Al Gores doomsday clock, I am going to go ahead and call BS on the Fantasy land climate catastrophe.

Now we have 12 more years before the world ends again. The only solution is Globalism and central command of all resources. The idiocy is embarrassing.

No doubt, it's good to see the boys battling (and chipping back a bit again) and getting some wins.

Electric car technology is not the future it's a green stand in until a better option, hydrogen, is in place. Hydrogen fuel cells will be powering vehicles in the future. They are in California now and it's starting in Montreal.

Back in the 90's a guy with the nickname "Quarters" Boyle, was convicted of embezzling $2 million in nickels, dimes and quarters from the Illinois Tollway Authority.

Sadly, behind the scenes, Teams and Leagues have had to make "restitution" to various causes, to maintain their ability to be who they want to be.

So sad...

I saw the Green New Deal today a read a bit about it. I am all for green initiatives. Global warming is a problem. But the Green New Deal won't work in urban areas like Chicago where so many cars street park. There is no logistical way to have all those cars be electric and have enough charging stations for them.

Are you going to ban people from owning cars in urban areas? The idea that public transportation is the answer is complete crap. It is the answer if you live by a good bus route or by the L. Otherwise, that is not a viable option.

I live in Lincoln Park and my office is in Wicker Park. Only way to get there is to drive or take a train to the loop and then a train back to Wicker which takes about 45 mins on a good day.

LOL. I feel like someone is embezzling money from me every time I cross the skyway. Thanks Mayor Daley.
