If they do.... They'll be a really hard team to beat.
- EdmHockeyMan

It looks like they might even have the cap room to pull it off also throw in that Florida is tax free so there is that factor as well....plus the weather is always good and as you pointed out they would become rather good with those signings....sounds like a great situation for a player to me

Fandom isn't something I pride myself on, but alas, the reality of it for many is that you connect with a franchise for some reason or another (Hemsky and the colour scheme in my case) and pretty much imprint on it. It's not something you can always just throw away. Interesting to hear that Flames fan's can so easily throw aside their fandom and cheer for their rivals

Further, this isn't loyalty to the people that run this stuff, if anything it's a loyalty to a brand/logo that you grew up with. That logo represents a team that fulfills part of our innate human desire to tribalize and compete by proxy rather than actually doing so... and tearing apart the fabric of modern society in the process. It's similar to how religion and things like gladiatorial combat allowed people to congregate and build their identity into a collective with a unified goal.

Back to feudalism?! Oligarchies and Fascisim?! Loyalty to the regional king?!

You’re going to continue to get bent over a sliver barrel and dry (frank)ed for the next 2-3 years because you like the colour of the barrel? It’s textures and patterns? They way it smells when you breath in deep? Or because there’s a few drops of whiskey still in the bottom (McD, Drai)

I’m a very loyal person, to family, friends, customers and all relationships. He’ll i always shop at the same stores because I build a relationship with the people that work there. They become friends. We help each other’s days.

That being said, an abusive relationship that’s only getting worse will cause me to move in a different direction. That’s all I’m saying.

But I will respect your choice. Do yourself a favour and buy a Costco size bottle of lube. It’s going to be a long few years of pain yet..

Piggy has the Isles as his b team as we know....while I have been an Oilers fan for decades I once had a b team as well....when Hasek was playing for Buffalo I took them on as my b team because Hasek was a god....(frank) you Brett Hull and the NHL....no goal

If you want to envision and true McDavid trade look no further than the Eric Lindros trade.

Quebec Nordiques - Steve Duchesne Peter Forsberg Ron Hextall Kerry Huffman Mike Ricci, Chris Simon, 1993 1st round pick, 1994 1st round pick and $15M cash.

Philadelphia Flyers - Eric Lindros

Now let's assume the Oilers put McDavid on the market... you would have an epic bidding war. If the Oilers made your suggested trade with the Rangers it would go down as one of the worst trades in NHL history.

- Reveen.

I'll start by saying that was just a framework for a trade and I recall typing "More in the form of picks." after the trade, but I must've deleted it by accident. I'll concede that was my mistake. However, I won't accept the Lindros trade as a one-to-one comparable. The league is completely different now and that includes the amount of information out there about players. I don't think teams are gonna line-up to give up half their team in the same manner as back then.

A trade that brings in a 1C replacement on a good contract (Zibanejad), a 2RW with excellent scoring chance numbers (Buch), a solid C prospect that's already in the NHL (Howden) and an elite scoring NCAA D prospect (Miller) and then the afore-neglcted picks. All assets under 26.

I'd rather hammer nails through both of my testicles while up to my waist in bleach bath, than root for the Flames in any legitimate fashion.

True story.

Gimme your address and we will test that theory Mr. I just bought a New York Islanders Anders Lee jersey..

It may not be for the Flames but your already getting set up to jump the Oilers team ship for the Islanders...

Btw, you do have the most disturbing choices of torture for yourself these last few years. Food for thought.

No, I'll just continue not watching games (only catching highlights as I have been), never buying merchandise, keeping an eye on the happenings from afar and watching other forms of hockey that I can enjoy (the CHL, Toronto and Nashville have been fun to watch).

For real, though, Larkin is someone I would view as a near-ideal centerpiece in a return for McDavid.

Yeah. Could see him being integral for it.

Oh I shall always root for the Oilers, even though they haven't given me any real reason to do so (as you've pointed out).

As far as torture goes, I'm an Oiler fan; basic torture techniques wouldn't even make me blink.

And I've had my Lee jersey for 2 years, so...

Panarin has repeatedly stated he wants to play in a big hockey market with full arenas and bright lights and big stars. If it was just his bank account he was worried about, Columbus would pay him. On that note, I don’t think Florida’s tax cuts would be enough to overcome the half full arenas and essentially nobody status he’d have there. This man wants to walk out the door and have people kiss his boots, that’s what he wants.

Quite a few posters on the Blackhawks board are upset with the team's recent success, and hoping that they get into tank mode before it's too late. Someone please go over to that board and tell them that tanking dosn't work.

Only 3 games and I don't plan on watching much more. I'm not gonna lie and say I watch more than a few games per team and will re-watch if I want to focus on a particular player. Otherwise, the vast majority of my predictions comes from a set of statistics I value that vary based on position and the team they play for. Funny Maksimov was maybe the first low-round pick that I called for that the Oilers actually made

After spending a good deal of time throughout the year exploring the CHL and SHL crop for this draft, I've made a list of guys I advocate for. I still have the post I made about that draft year, too. Looks pretty good in hindsight.

Yeah, that’s a very real possibility. Probably one of his top 3 destinations. There was talk of NYR being first in line, but with their sell off rebuild he’s not gonna want to go there. NYI are probably the front runners in fact. Unless he has facial hair he really likes, the NYI is a no go..

The following quote courtesy of a poster on Lowetide breaks down a fundamental issue with modern #OilersCulture:

"Everything is done on reputation. Hired the GM, coach no search. Obviously no looking into Reinhart, I believe Pete said he hadn’t watched him since the memorial cup.

Lucic is awesome! Oh, he is declining 5v5? Strome is buddies with Connor, I thought he could skate he was a top pick?Wideman can pass the puck, I remember. Spooner has the stuff, I saw him in Beantown!

On and on it goes. Makes the job easier when you don’t have to do the digging or listen to the math snobs you used to employ.

I think they like to hang out, drink expensive hooch and have nice dinners more than anything, like hard to do."

Sums it up pretty damn well.

I'd hit up Tampa Bay and ask for Point, Johnson, Sergachev, and a couple of 1st round picks.
