Things could be a lot worse, Gaunce could be on the team.

Seriously Sutter is one small insignificant issue with this team, but I understand the desire to focus on one individual to choose to pick on.

Sutter isn’t “the” problem, just like Beagle isn’t the problem or Eriksson isn’t the problem. The problem is when you put them all (and others) together and for the most part, none of them are contributing to the “score more goals than the other team” part of winning and loosing.

At least with Gaunce he only takes up a small portion of the salary cap.

- 1970vintage

Defensive forwards like sutter and beagle are a necessity every bit as much as goal scorers. Its how you beat teams that would outscore you otherwise.
Part of scoring more goals than the other team is preventing that team from scoring

You have the upper paragraph correct, and who the hell cares about the salary cap.

Gaunce is not a good player, if he was he would be on the team. Look at the injuries, where is Gaunce, why oh why is this poor unjustly talented player not with the Canucks?

He’s taking Horvat’s job?!

But in seriousness we win the lotto, draft Hughes, then Horvat does become 3C

Id use Hughes as a winger. Hes not very good defensively right now.

It would be hard for JB not take Quinns brother if possible, I wonder if he would though.

Hearing Demko is being placed on IR.
If this is the case, I hope we get a look at MacEwen.

Nice. Another injury-prone player.

Exactly what we need.

Gaunce has had more than enough opportunity but it's obvious he could not pack Beag's, Sutter's or LE's lunch on his best day...hence being a career AHL'er. It is what it is. Saving against the cap is one thing, but having Gaunce up here for 4th line minutes is redundant considering he's never going to be a consistent NHL player.

Well that’s a new one, Demko participates in one practice gets injured and it’s the head trainers fault.

I think he would 100% take him — not only for the whole brother thing (he spoke so highly about QH before the draft and told his family he was going to take him if he fell), but he’s the consenus number one pick for every scout/mock draft out there.

Having him play wing would be a great transition though, basically a faster patty kane on Bo’s line.

Oh the irony.

He's not on the team because Benning spent 3 million on an older more developed version of the same player. Guance is a capable 4th liner, doesn't mean he's great or even good. But he's capable according to all advanced stats.

Agreed for the most part. I think he's the ideal 13th forward. In fact id say that guance >Schaller

Many scouts, and I'll point to Corey Pronman specifically, will tell you that he is not as skilled as Pat Kane, so there's that.....

Its not the worst draft I've read but it's really not a great one either. I think if youre the Canucks and you have an opportunity to grab Bowen Byram or Broberg, you do it because you arent getting guys like Kakko or Hughes at this point and neither is any better than say Horvat in their prime.

I can't wait for the roasting!
