I would say it does take Power forwards longer than skilled players because you don't have an advantage anymore and have to learn to use your size in a different way.

Jake for example used his size and speed to score goals in junior. Now you can't just blow by every defencemen and push your way to the net. Now he has to learn and adapt when to use it and combine it with whatever skills he has to be effective.

That's why a player with size and skill is so sought after.

Usually the power forwards that bust or don’t live up to expectations just aren’t skilled enough, they don’t suddenly become more skilled. Jake’s 1st line ceiling is gone. Maybe he can become a decent 2nd line winger.

Jake never had the skill to be a 1st line winger. That's also why you don't see Virtanen's, Ritchies, Wilson's take in the first round anymore.

I think Lawson Crouse was the last player that had size but less skilled to be taken in the first round.

Some bigger players taken but not with the traditional power forward type player like Jake, Wilson, Ritchie, Crouse.

True, I still think a lot of teams would be okay with a Tom Wilson though. He embraces his role and doesn’t try to be something he’s not.

Hence why teams are looking at Simmonds. Big guys with skill are not easy to find.

For all his shenigans, I'd be okay with a Wilson type of player if he was on my team. It's one of the reasons why I like Roussel (pest type not big)

my point pres, is that i wish to keep virtanen. virtanen has also been playing primarily "3rd line" this year and is on pace to be score between 15-20... soooo if you want to talk about contradicting, then lets chat lol

I guess by your standards, Torres scored 14 as a Canuck on the 3rd line, so he meets your criteria, but again, lets not put too much focus on semantics of what a player needs to achieve in order to be "2nd" or "3rd" line material as far as point totals.

14 goals does not 15 make. So no, gaunce is still a better player then Schaller.

im curious to see what happens when Virtanen scores between 15-20 this year playing on the 3rd line.

and what is your obsession with Gaunce, honestly. Who even brought up schaller? who gives a f*ck about either player

Care to mosey on over to the new blog?

I still have a bee in my bonnet about Tanev playing his off wing, plus thoughts on Leivo, Horvat, and the rest of the schedule.

I did not know EP40 had an older brother in the league, Emil Pettersson just got traded from the Preds to the Yotes

like wtf was JB doing, he could have had the Sedin replacement and rebuild complete if he was on the ball.

It is. It actually takes longer for skinny kids to develop, I’ll try to find the article I read a couple of years ago, but the author went back like 20-30 years and found that “power forwards” taking longer to develop was a total myth.

He actually found that it was underweight/lanky prospects who took longer to develop.
