Pretty much....the team will have to go bargain shopping to attempt to fill needs while trying to purge as much as possible

If the new GM succeeds in purging Lucic, he'll almost certainly be voted NHL GM of the year. |

I would sign that GM to a lifetime contract with 100% control then I would hang a banner with his name on it high in the rafters

Half retained buyout is the way to go. Low asset cost to do it and minimal cap impact. |

Yup, but such is the West this year. Vancouver holding it down with their roster is just a huge indictment of our organization- from management to coaches to players. - MaximumBone

If Oilers and Canes made a trade what would it look like ? |
|
|
|
So... any chance you guys would humor Jack Johnson for Russel? |

FWIW Nurse rocking 22 points in his last 29 games. Now that I've mentioned it, I fully expect it to drop off pretty hard. |

If Jones and Bouchard can step up next year and with the step forward Nurse has taken we might not be as bad off as we think.

I dunno, man.
We'd probably want Nuge. I have no idea what you guys would want that we'd be willing to give up. Nic Roy?
Allegedly Canes are looking for some depth guys right now. |

You certainly have to mean Roy+, right? Kuokkanen would be of greater interest. |

I would expect Jones to be pushing for a spot next season.....I’m holding off expectations for Bouchard next year....if he earns it in camp/ pre season then sure but if not then sometime with the Condors wouldn’t hurt either |

Lol yes.
Not straight up. Kuokkanen could be had too. |

Kuokkanen? Yes please - RatedR80
My ask would be him plus a younger top-9 NHL forward. Maybe more. Would prefer to not move him, but if trading him frees up cap on top of the Sekera buyout and the Lucic half-retained buyout, then we could be a player on the Stone market! |

Well if we went after Kuokkanen then we should talk to Dallas about Hintz too....we could have an all Fins line with Puju in the mix |

I like how Hintz skates. If he's available and we could get a couple other assets back, I'd be all over that. |

People seem to think it would take years to right the ship but with moves like that the roster turnover wouldn’t be as painful as people want to believe

Let's just assume we can move Nuge for either Hintz+ or Kuokkanen+; that frees up around 5mil in cap space (depending on the added asset). Let's assume we send Rieder, Petrovic, Talbot and Chiasson out for picks ensuring we won't resign them. Complete out two buyout scenarios: Sekera @ 2.5/year x 2 and 1.5/yr x 2 and Lucic half-retained @ ~1.8, ~2.8, ~2.1, ~2.8, 312k x 4. Frees up a total:
6mil out in Nuge
3mil out off Sekera
4.2mil out off Lucic
ELC in from Kuokkanen/Hintz
Another 1-2mil for the additional asset (Faksa/Wallmark and a pick- likely spent on the Lucic trade-out)
Total net cap gain of ~10mil (+8.5 base cap space)
Draft Bowen Byram, trade Puljujarvi and Spooner (500k retained) for Coyle
Turn around and sign Stone (8.5 x 7), Johansson (4 x 1) and resign Khaira, Gambardella, P. Russell, Gravel and Starrett
MoJo- McDavid- Coyle
Hintz- Draisaitl- Stone
Khaira- Faksa- Marody
Gambo- Brod/Cave- Kassian
Russell
Klefbom- Larsson
Nurse- Russell (alas)
Jones- Benning
Persson, Gravel
Koskinen
Starrett
It's another year as a bubble team, but it should be a more enjoyable bubble team and we'll start seeing the Bensons, Jones', and Marodys start getting chances in the NHL while our AHL team adds new blood. Byram, Bouchard, Jones, Bear, Berglund, Lagesson and Samorukov is a strong collection of D prospects that'll fill the holes on our blueline as they arrive |

While I'm at it, acquire Andrew Copp (Brodziak w/ 300k retained and a 3rd). Sets us up to have a quality 4th line!
