Point to ponder for the lose-for-Hughes crowd.

Dylan Strome is 21 years old. There's your lottery pick this season, no matter what happens going forward.

Just got done watching parts of the game I missed today and the postgame show. Think I’ve got to get one of those solid black caps with the winter classic black and white Indian head. The more I see it, the more I like it.

It tells me that he thinks people shouldn’t freak out if they “blow”their chance at Hughes because they’ve already added the equivalent of a top pick.
- Ogilthorpe2

I hope you're right. Stay the course, if they can get a young top 4dman magically would be great but otherwise not interested

Or you could, ya know, keep Strome AND draft a lottery pick and then have double the amount of talent...

24-24 still puts them 9 games below .500. Let’s see them get to a real .500 (the same number of wins as combined losses) and then they will have a real chance at the playoffs.
- Spec41971

Thank you. Pat Foley STILL doesn't understand NHL .500. He keeps telling us Hawks are one game below 500. Wrong Pat!!!!

He would probably argue that if the Hawks go 0-0-82 next season, they’re a .500 club. What a crazy mixed up system they are trying to sell us as part of parity. You either win or you lose....you have to base your winning percentage on that.

It bothers me that they’re trying to paint a rosier picture than the reality of the system. And if the worst thing I’m worrying about is the type of b.s. grading system they try to sell us, I’m a pretty lucky guy.

Thanks. And a final thought — not because I want or need the last word — but if someone is making assessments of what the team needs to be doing to improve in the future and is making those decisions because they think the team is only 1 game under .500 when they dismiss the 10 games or so they also lost in OT, I think they’re making flawed decisions.

So here is question to the panel:

What does bowman do leading up to and on TDL day? Stay pat and do nothing , move Kunitz Ward and kruger to contending team, go all in and try and get into the playoffs or stay the course and continue with what he has done up to now referring to strom perlini koko and Caggulia trades? Thoughts and trade proposals are welcomed.

- Scott1977

[Two - fold answer is based on the record and playoff slotting on trade deadline day.

If a seller sure get whatever you can for Kreuger, Hayden, Anisinov. Nobody wants injured Crawford or still too inconsistent Forsling. Gus has to be a big overpay

A late first is not really all that great. Gus wins games for teams now and down the road, worts and all that come with his game. I want at least one prospect show as ready and Koekkoek to settle in as a descent third pair before Gus would be traded. And we have no assets of great value we wish to move......... so forget about an experienced top four dman coming here.

Right now we need to see how things turn out with our smallish dmen. You will not be playing Forsling and your bigger jewel - Jokiharju - if they are playing scared.

Gilbert or Hillman almost have to play here eventually if you add a couple of smallish dmen. You might get away with two non physical dmen prospects if they can play and are truly ready. Mitchell and Jokiharju and Beaudin/Carlsson also close but you might need to swap out a descent Koekkoek for an experienced physical dman.

Bringing in Hillman or Gilbert is bringing too much youth at same time. Maybe late next year it could be done....... but at that time you could be (again) a darkhorse playoff contender/pretender.

Best guess is that Bowman does very little to nothing. The team could sneak into the playoffs as comprised. The last playoff spot is maybe up for grabs and it is possible this team as it stands today has enough depth. Chicago would be a first round exit and this rister is not much better even if you added depth. We have AA and.forwards in Rockford. We are probably stuck with the D we have. I suspect Bowman wants to draft or sign free agent euro's so maybe one current aforementioned Blackhawk goes for a draft pick.

I will check it out. Like the black and white logo and simplicity on a solid black hat.

Someone earlier in the day commented they likes the unis the lightning wore last night and others complained about the contrast with the names and logos. I totally agree with that. The hawks winter classics looked good in simple black and white. Contrast on names and numbers was really clearly defined. Hope they wear them more often.

3-0-2 in their last 5 at home is undefeated in Foley’s mind....wrong Pat, that’s 2 defeats!

I am all for keeping Gus unless they get an offer that totally blows they away. Think long term the hawks should be looking into building a shutdown pair that can play in the top four (3 & 4 actually) and then strive to build a new top pair similar to what they had with 2 & 7 in their prime. Probably won’t get another HOFer in that pair, but have to move towards that. Think Gus fits nicely in the 3rd pair if they can match him up with a more stat-at-home defenseman that can cover for him. Gus’ offense would be hard to replace in the next year or two.

Just saw one at Target today. Lids is having a sale on their Winter Classic gear as well. Dunno if they have the specific one or not but worth checking out

I’d be ok with that. If those two are as close as they appear to be I’m sure they’ll want to play together for as long as possible. I don’t think it will be the primary motivator in their contract negotiations but it will be a factor.

Having played competitive travel sports while growing up, there really is something to be said for having “one of your best buds” on the same team
Off the ice/rink especially, you motivate each other to train harder, keep each other honest for team deadlines and expectation etc etc

I don’t think Strome would be having this level of success on any other team, without ADB, except for maybe EDM (McJesus)

It’s amazing how people here find the most relevant things to complain about while the hawks are actually playing well.

Agreed, 100%. But I’m still not certain how this translates into their next contract.
