Agreed, 100%. But I’m still not certain how this translates into their next contract. - DarthKane
I don’t quite think that they’re on the same level of “matching” contracts quite yet, as the sample size from Strome is too small
But I do see it playing into negotiations for each, both willing to settle for more term/fairer AAV with the handshake deal if “keep the band together”
And both being committed to being hawks for a long time |

Just saw one at Target today. Lids is having a sale on their Winter Classic gear as well. Dunno if they have the specific one or not but worth checking out - Savetheembers33
Thanks. Will head over to target tomorrow!

Having played competitive travel sports while growing up, there really is something to be said for having “one of your best buds” on the same team
Off the ice/rink especially, you motivate each other to train harder, keep each other honest for team deadlines and expectation etc etc
I don’t think Strome would be having this level of success on any other team, without ADB, except for maybe EDM (McJesus) - Slofire94
This is so true as so many levels. I can’t think of one thing I’ve been involved with throughout my life that wasn’t improved by being with someone you could consider a good bud. But I think it has to be especially important given how much time these athletes spend away from home and family. |

Again, I agree. I don’t think they’ll have matching contracts. I think their terms will be close, but money will differ.
Maybe... DeBrincat for $6-$7 million AAV for 7 years and for Strome $4-$5 million for 5-6 years. |

It’s amazing how people here find the most relevant things to complain about while the hawks are actually playing well. - Abadseed
People complain because they are passionate about the team, they have high expectations, and it is fun to talk about and try planning for their future.
Being a hawks fan isn’t like being a bears or cubs fan. There aren’t as many of us as there are them, and the press coverage is either nonexistent or birders in pathetic when provided.
A forum like hockey buzz is today’s equivalent of the old office cooler at work or going to the neighborhood bar to share talk about your team given that I see posters on here from Los Angeles, Australia, Denver and places all over Canada, besidesbthose of us local to the Chicago area, I expect to see a complete divergence of opinion between the group.
Instead of complaining about posts or ideas I don’t agree with, I am just happy that so many people give a s$$t about the team.

Seems a lot of the NHL “insiders” are convinced that the new CBA will dramatically shorten the max contract length. 5 years seems to be a popular number being tossed around. |

I’ve heard that and Matthews’ contract seems to support that notion. If I’m the Hawks I’d want to lock up DeBrincat for as long as I could. Unless the league has plans to punish existing contracts over 5 years like they have with the deals like Keith and Hossa’s. |

Absolutely correct. 0-0-82 is not a .500 team. - Spec41971
Same 82 points as going 41-41-0, though. |

I am not a big fan of the league being able to dictate what a team can and can’t do with a contract’s term. Would rather they just leave it and let the teams that sign someone to too much term have to suffer the consequences of that decision. On the other hand, keeping teams competitive probably warrants some kind of control over what has to be done to protect the owners from themselves.
On the other hand, would like to see something built into the next contract that allows a team to purchase and use another team’s unused cap space.

Same number of points... but in one scenario you at least won 42 games and in the other you won none.
What gets lost when people try making .500 out of getting the loser point is that you are only getting 1 of three possible points, not 1 of 2 points. Screwed up system. Every game should be worth 3 points. |

So true, all of this
My best analogy is also college
Having a good roommate (or housemate/hallmate) in your classes or major can provide major dividends in your “support network” and make it much easier to navigate
... I wonder how much influence ADB had in the Hawks looking long at Strome and
making that trade
We know players talk, especially good friends from former teams, seeing how their respective clubs are working out and how they like the environment |

Out of curiosity, who are the “comparable” contracts you’re thinking of for each Strome/ADB? |

That sort of logic (considering what else I read before), just isn't fair. lol.
82 points is .500, end of story. Doesn't matter how you get there, excepting in tie-breakers.
