There is plenty of available evidence of what Hextall's plan was and how he was going to proceed to build the team. If anyone didn't know what it was then they simply weren't paying attention. It is silly to suggest that it can't be proven.

I am generous like that.

Especially the zipper merge on Forty Foot road.

He said they would be a playoff team this year and they were the worst team in the league. He was difficult to deal with, alienating and his team looked to be getting dramatically worse. Fans lost interest in the team and had no confidence in the coach.
- Dkos

He said making the playoffs was an expectation. Why wouldn't he say that at the beginning of the season when they made the playoffs the previous season? The difficult to deal with and alienating the team is nonsense. I don't care what the fans thought.

Really, you know what I didn't like about the firing, just seemed so panicky. Also, reminded me of how we threw people under the bus in the past.. Neilson, Lindros just a couple of examples. Seems like there is zero respect and hexy deserved better than a ten second phone call he didn't see coming.
- Hextall271

With how bad this team was if Hexy didn't see it coming then he was blind.

Right or wrong his 7-10 year Vision started to end when Ed passed away.

I can't pass up getting a return for him right now. This team just isn't ready to contend just yet.

Let's be reasonable. It wasn't a 7-10 year vision.

Grasping at straws. Hart was the available player to bring up. For all we know Hextall might have made the same call. I can do the same thing. The relevant point is that if any of the veteran goaltenders were available, Hart likely would still be with the Phantoms.
- MJL

But hextall is gone so the world will never know.
Hexy did a lot of good but was unable to deviate from his original plan.
We will never know what hexy would have done with hak and hexy gone the players look like they are having fun again. And the product on ice shows.
Sure... we have a lot to work on and holes to fill but the guys on the ice have a different tune to them.... even with trade rumors swirling.
It still seems there were off ice issues between players and coach/management.
I'm optimistic for our future. Hexy set us up nicely. No denying that at all

You cannot do the same thing as an executive, except in your fantasy/video game.

And, Hextall did not get the chance to because he was for all intents and purposes a creep to his peers.

And your retro-logic about what people would have done is just as speculative as the comments you love to dissect.

Exactly, his team should have been improved and they were horrible. He failed. Apparently the way he dealt with people was an issue to Holmgen and Scott. They mentioned it as part of the reason they fired him.

You've misread my posts and what I was saying especially the part where I said I'm not bothered by the number of turnovers that Voracek has.
- MJL

I think losing voracek will cause a huge hole on this team. He has trade value.
Just because arm chair GMs here dont see it doesnt mean REAL GMs dont see his value. He is the type of player to take a team over the top.
But that is the problem. Management wants to win now so trading voracek makes zero sense since we would be getting back primarily draft picks and non roster players.
His turn overs suck and sometimes they are at the most unfortunate times but it comes with his high offensive output.
His turn overs dont concern me either

Saying he failed is absurd. A GM failing or succeeding in the situation that Hextall took over is not based on half a season. The team is benefitting and will benefit in the future from what Hextall did. He wasn't perfect and he made some mistakes but that's true of every GM. If the team played better in the first half of the season he would still be the GM today. The rest is BS.

Ok? Everyone knew his plan, but things weren’t really going to his plan. They were regressing and when his bosses asked him what he was going to do about it he didn’t give them a satisfactory response.

He started the season with 2 glass goalies who is finished in the NHL after this season. Talk about the elephant in the room.

Seems to me like it was. Management just lost patience and was unable to deal with the temporary setback. Management also failed to consider that it took Hextall the better part of 2-3 years to recover from how the team was run previously. To improve the cap picture and rebuild the prospect base. Hextall positioned this team really well for the future. That was the plan.

The evidence being asked for is what his plan as a GM was. You're out of context.

I dont want to just trade Jake for picks and prospects. But I think if we have the opportunity to upgrade him in the lineup I would make the trade. With somebody like stone. I dont get stone I dont trade Jake.

That's the kind of move I'd like to see. If Stone gets to free agency, make an offer to sign him. If you can get him, you then can make a trade of Voracek and maybe add some younger quality players. You've then added Stone, who I think is a better overall player and added more youth without giving up youth. Lot's of ifs though.
