The evidence being asked for is what his plan as a GM was. You're out of context. - MJL

My opinion on what Hextall's plan was is based on readily available public knowledge. You've got it wrong again.

Seems to me like it was. Management just lost patience and was unable to deal with the temporary setback. Management also failed to consider that it took Hextall the better part of 2-3 years to recover from how the team was run previously. To improve the cap picture and rebuild the prospect base. Hextall positioned this team really well for the future. That was the plan. - MJL
Who’s to say someone else couldn’t have done a better/quicker job of fixing the team? It didn’t take a genius to see that the Flyers needed to change their “go for it now” mentality and start building through the draft. The bottom line is that he’s gone. The new GM hasn’t done anything to make me lose faith in him so far and the team is fun to watch again. |

You really don't when using words like IF.
And since you are so close with what the future of the team is going to be. (One you are nothing more than a fan of).. what was the plan this year?
Please be very specific. |

Let's be reasonable. It wasn't a 7-10 year vision. - MJL
Maybe 6 to 10 is a better range but by your own statement the first 2-3 years he was changing direction. The last two building. That is 5 right there.

I look at it as at the most 2. It was panic to fire Hextall.

You have no evidence that anyone panicked. I think it’s more of a case of Holmgren and Scott being fed up with him. |

That's the kind of move I'd like to see. If Stone gets to free agency, make an offer to sign him. If you can get him, you then can make a trade of Voracek and maybe add some younger quality players. You've then added Stone, who I think is a better overall player and added more youth without giving up youth. Lot's of ifs though. - MJL
110% agree. I see Jake's value to the team. I just dont think hes indispensable and I think a cup team needs a better 2nd option than him. Hes closer to kessel to me than kane stone or the other top wingers. |

I dont want to just trade Jake for picks and prospects. But I think if we have the opportunity to upgrade him in the lineup I would make the trade. With somebody like stone. I dont get stone I dont trade Jake. - Tfaehner
If stone agrees to sign here then I make that trade today!!! But the option of free agency and a big payday has to be appealing to stone. He gets out of Ottawa AND gets paid?!
My point was that it would be hard to get what we want, which is a high impact player now. Contending teams are adding and do very little subtracting. From my opinion it throws off the chemistry when you do that. Which is why I think moving Jake is harder than people think. I dont want to lose his offensive output. He is a beast |

I don't think there is any doubt that with the assets that the team has and the cap space that the Flyers have that they could've improved the team quicker. That was not completely representative of Hextall's goal. Hextall wanted to build a team that could contend and keep the window open for a considerable time. That is a facet that many overlook. That management in my opinion panicked and made a bad decision isn't the new GM's fault. Fletcher deserves patience and a chance.

I see it as 5 years in and the team was struggling.
You think it was panic and I think it was the right time.

So you discount the few years that it took to clear up the cap and build up the prospect base? In the 17/18 season the team improved 10 points and finished 3rd in the Metro. One poor half a season erases all of that? It was panic.

I’m still alive, and very happy.
Don’t spend much time in here anymore, it’s not worth it. If they add an “ignore” feature, I’ll be back.

I hope not, the risk/reward is not there for signing him to a long extension. Get what you can, hopefully a body that can play now, and move on. - coffee junkie
I'm still ok if he stays at the right contract, but I'd be lying if I didn't say there is a part of that is excited to see him go. I'm ready for something new. |

I don't discount anything.
There is only one metric for a leader, successful or unsuccessful.
5 years in and the team was near the bottom of the league.
As I said the reality is someplace between your panic and my was the right time. Being honest it's all a moot point right now since he is gone and to this point I have no issues with what Fletcher has done. |

Listen to yourself. Obviously it wasnt just about the poor half a season. It was about Hextall. They wanted him out. Not panic. A good time to get rid of him. |
