Do you really believe Olofsson, Nylander O’Regan or Asplund are just going to come in and transition smoothly?

Do you think we don’t know all this??

These players 9, 26, 23 etc......would benefit greatly with some playoff experience this year! You can waive Sobotka (no one, most likely will take him).

My point is we have 2 months left (it’s not November) these young guys deserve a shot - some guys need to sit 21, 6 and 17 (29 sat). Try to make that push, trade some picks/prospects for players like Toffolli/Hayes before its to late - players young that you can sign!

- Irish 14

I would agree that nobody grabs Sobotka if he is waived, but then his contract gets buried in the minors, but still counts against the cap and then the player brought up counts against the cap and that in turn lessens the opportunity to bring someone in that you want to acquire in a trade. I have faith in GMJB that he knows what he's doing when it comes to cap manipulation. As I have said before, Pittsburgh won Cups because of Botterill's work not in spite of it.

Waiving Sobotka saves a million against the cap. That would pay for any of the young players you would want to see.

Housley will never, ever waive Sobotka though. No way he scratches him today either

in this case

stone and either nelson or lee from islanders?

- homiedclown

that would be amazing, but if we cant get rid of the slowposo contract it would be hairy to have a 27M first line at 8m-10m-9m. we basically are where toronto is this year next year.

he was dropped to the 4th line in the playoffs last season
- homiedclown

But not prior seasons, and still good enough to be in the lineup on that roster last year.

I think if Sheary is on our 3rd line, we'll take that all day.

To say he isn't "playoff caliber" is ridiculous.

For a period.

Then he will get sat the moment he takes a penalty or makes a bad play, and we will complain.

Do you really believe Olofsson, Nylander O’Regan or Asplund are just going to come in and transition smoothly?

Housley just sat the Amerk’s best player yesterday

Maybe.

But I can tell you with 100% certainty that Olofsson won’t be seeing line 1 time this year with Phil Housley as coach

I don't know, The Coach must be getting better, because the team is better, they are 1 point short of all of last season, Constantly changing Coaches and systems in an attempt to get better to me is just chasing your tail. I know a coaching change can and has sparked teams to great things. GMJB has seen this first hand as it has happened twice in Pittsburgh, I just don't think now is the time for that in Buffalo, I don't care who is behind that bench, this team is not winning the Stanley Cup this year, so, with that in mind, you stay the course, you ride out this year hoping for the best possible finish. Then in the off season you make the changes to the roster you deem necessary to put yourself in the best position for success.

the rookie coach is no better after 130 plus games behind the bench

that is my biggest issue

and some scrubs are still on this roster, time for addition from subtraction

skinner is having his best season ever perhaps
reinhart proved the second half of last season was not a fluke
dahlin shows glimpses of being a stud
pilut has shown he will be an nhl d man

yet it's not an upbeat north south team in year 2 still and the pp is underperforming

I think replacing the coach in this case fixes 2/3 of the issues of this team
once the win streak ended, playoffs SHOULD have been the goal

housley and botts sat on their hands and watched the team slide back into a lottery pick

I think there's more than just glimpses..

Just curious.. didn't Zaitsev have a pretty decent 1st season? You think he earned that current contract?

We have been patient for a decade! I understand the contracts etc.... but enough of the rebuild, tank and save the picks (see Vegas). They need to make the playoffs this year as the next step! No excuses, GMJB will make the right moves I believe. Just can’t wait to long (like last year with the ROR trade). Sometimes you have to give to get! 55 can go in the right deal!

He did look pretty good in season one.

I actually didn't hate the contract. It was a gamble, but could have looked like a bargain if Zaitsev progressed or maintained his play.

one thing that is really interesting is the big discrepancy in his numbers with and without Jake Gardiner. He is a much better player without Gardiner.

Contract only looks really bad because the leafs are scrambling so much against the cap right now.

I think sobotka shows up and works hard, every shift and every game.

Sure it would be nice if he scored, but not every player on every team scores.

Housley likes his consistency. As do i

In my opinion, if we want hard working players, bring back Nolan.

I want to win games, not just work hard.

That's right.
