Delia extended.
3 year deal. |

3 years; $1M AAV extension for Delia...
Quite the team-friendly deal for the Hawks there. Depending on what happens with Crow, that is major savings for the Hawks. - TommyHawk
Great extension, glad he's sticking around! Good work, Stan! Thanks for the info. |

Very small sample size for the kid but Hawks willing tonlock him in for 3 years. Low risk at 1M.

Nice and Stan did not include a NMC with that!
He is finally learning that end of his job. |

If I were Delia I would fire my agent. 1 year good (Crow still under contract). 2 years maybe (prove himself after Crow). 3 years is too long. |

Veterans, core players and free agents will all probably still command NTCs and NMCs. |

Great deal for the Hawks. Best case scenario Delia is an NHL starter @ $1 million. Worst case scenario Delia is an AHL starter @ $1 million (fully buried). |

I think, as Lazerus said yesterday, the way to look at it is that they basically already got their top 3 pick when they acquired Strome. No need to worry about “blowing” their chance at a top pick. Just keep trying to get better as a team, and let the draft pick fall where it may. - Ogilthorpe2
I would agree with Laz had we not given up Schmaltz in that deal which still could end up being a wash.
Schmaltz is a good player and I for one will not pile on with the rest of the fans in knocking him. |

I would have thought Delia could have got close to $2 million if the contract when 2 years or more. |

Best wishes to Scott Darling, who has taken a leave of absence from Carolina's AHL team. I hope it isn't related to previous demons.

I agree. Although Schmaltz has a very different skill set from TT, I could see him having similar success as TT. It will just take him a little longer to develop it, especially with the injury.

The Hawks upgraded a mid-first round pick to a top 3 pick. That’s not a net-new addition but it’s still an improvement.
I think this deal could work out for both clubs where each guy plays better for their new teams. |

This clearly gives Stan a idea of how much money now he has and no matter what happens with Crawford ,delia is locked up on a team friendly deal.

I wonder if Tanner still thinks the Yotes won that deal huge?
with my team basically out of it (for the foreseeable future) the hawks are always one of the teams I enjoy cheering for....always been a huge Toews fan. hopefully you guys can sneak in - sensarmy_11
In defense of Tanner, he was a huge Strome supporter before #17 started playing great for Chicago. |

" I do like to think about a fast skilled defense, each pair is possible."
Isn't that Joki, Boqvist and Gus? I guess less so Gus, but as a third pair guy, that's not awful. - SoftServe
Agreed. Would ideally like to have those types paired with big stay-at home d-men for at least the 2nd/3rd pairings as well but not sure that's the direction they want to head. |

Schmaltz, I believe, is destined to eventually be a wing, and even if he stays at C, he will never be the net front presence that Strome already is. They’re both still young, and a lot can change, but so far Schmaltz for Strome straight up seems like a clear win for the Hawks. If Perlini amounts to anything more than the lazy waste of talent that he looks to be so far, then the trade looks even better. |

Agreed on Koekkoek. His skill set almost like the Canadian version of Michal Kempny. Maybe a bit more offfensive although we haven't fully seen that yet. - Justin Lowe
The Lightning draft extremely well and Stevie Y wouldnt have spent a 10th overall on a player he didnt think had excellent NHL potential.
His 'misfortune' has been injuries and playing behind Hedman, McDonagh, Sergachev etc. Tampa gave him a chance to establish himself elsewhere, in the Western Conference. I think we will look at the trade as a steal in a year or 2 while he plays for minimal salary. Defenceman take time to hit their stride in the NHL, if he stays healthy he can be a good one. And a much better option than laying out huge $ for a free agent like Jake Gardiner. |

@FriedgeHNIC: Delia breakdown is 750K/750k/1.1M, with a $400K signing bonus in year I
The breakdown makes sense. I was curious whether the Hawks would build in some flexibility (due to the Crawford uncertainties) by giving Delia a 2-way in his first year.
My guess would have been 2 year deal with 1st year being a 2-way. I'm ok with the deal though if it's all 1-way. I love Delia's work ethic and mental side of the game. |

All for going after more of these pedigree types. Drouin was in a similar spot in TB if you'll recall. Guys like Puljujarvi for example, could likely be had relatively cheap in a trade as Stan's been doing lately |

Agreed. Strome didn't just fall into Hawks lap... they had to give up Nick Schmaltz for him.
The lottery pick AND Dylan Strome would be the best scenario. |

I’m not sure if all the details have been revealed or not, but if it’s a one way deal, then it might not be such a bad idea for him. If it’s one way, then he gets paid the full million even if he’s sent back to RFD. He could be hedging his bet in case Crawford returns. |

If the Hawks decide that Delia is the guy moving forward (and all signs point to that, even if SSS), then this is the equivalent of drafting a franchise QB early in the NFL and using that rookie-scale contract as a competing window. The cap savings from not having to pay market value for a starter will be huge these next 3 years (assuming Crawford is resolved this summer).
Otherwise, Delia is just paid backup money which is perfectly fine anyhow. |

Quite the coup for Stan if Delia can remain at the minimum a serviceable backup and thus far I like his floor/ceiling. Just imagine if they played zone def instead of man
