True about Sawchuck having depression and being an alchoholic, didn't he die due to injuries received in a fight with Ron Stewart?
- LAHawk

I remember when Clint Malarchuk had that gruesome accident with the skate blade to his neck. Very sad story. Thought he was going to die that night. Thankfully he made it but not without life struggles with OCD, nightmares, and alcoholism.

Yup, got into a fight about rent money. Probably making about 10 grand a year back then.

One mitigating factor was they weren't down on the ice as much as the current goalies are - I think they did pretty well in protecting their heads more. Much more stand-up saves, more athletic saves, less positional.

But - just remembering what I was watching back then.

Even with the curved stick, most players could not shoot nearly as hard as they do now. I do remember the Rangers used to play Villemure instead of Giacomin when facing the Hawks cause every time Bobby Hull wound up, Giacomin would flinch and lift up.

My first game at the stadium in early 60's, hull had a breakaway on Detroit's crozier. Crozier. Skakted backwards into the net and hulls shot followed him in

Pastrnak OUT for 2 weeks = much better chance at winning tonight
- EnzoD

So does that make Boston a 1 line team tonight?

They average about 3 goals per game

Interesting. Is line 2 going to be able to perform tonight, if they do the Hawks have another great chance of getting the win

I remember the Leafs last Stanley Cup win, the Leafs beat the Blackhawks 4 games to 2 in the semi-finals, in what was considered an upset, and Sawchuck stood on his head.

There is a sporting goods store in Hamilton Ontario called Keneskys. Old man Frank Kenesky used to make all of the goalie pads there for NHL goalies. Horsehair and leather, probably weighed about 35 lbs each leg when they got water logged.

I saw Sawchuk in there one day for a fitting, walking around the store smoking a dart. If weed was legal back then he would probably have been doing that with booze too. You would have been proud of him Enzo.

They are basically a one line team with a good power play, of which Pasternick is by far the leading power play producer

Speaking for myself and the voices in my head, I kinda hope Crow just hangs them up. He has nothing left to prove. He has his money. Obvs, more to do with his long term health for me.
- Elbows15

I'd be fine with him hanging it up. My point was that he's the one with the right to decide whether to play, not us. None of us has heard what the doctors are telling him.

I agree with the rest of the thoughts on Crow - I was a Crow guy even before JJ.

I believe the OCD pre-dated the incident.

True but they still did sliding saves and had sticks flying all around their heads.

I was thinking in the last 20 games

+14 GF/GA

SF 30.8
SA 37.6

Since all star break, i know really small sample size

SF 33.4
SA 37.8

You know i just keep thinking about Mantha missing the net when he had all this time to shoot the puck and Nyquist didn't. So i believe it's more important who you keep from shooting the puck on net as opposed to how many shots you give up to scrubs.

Watching the Rangers game they smothered Marner and Matthews they had no time and space to do anything yet the team put up 50 shots on goal or something like that.

I mean "unfortunate" as in if the team thinks he would benefit from another week off and Corey says nope im good to go, then he's on the active roster. I hope nothing but health and happiness to him, i think it's great he auctioned off the chevelle for a charity and all that stuff.
- BetweenTheDots

Players and the teams often make bad decisions for selfish reason. The bad thing is that the team doctors arent usually any better. Everyone seems to want the player back on the ice before they need to be there. Hope Crawford stays out the rest of this year and comes back healthier and refreshed in September.

Thanks for the info on that. Read a few articles about it many years ago so details were fuzzy in my head.

Sitting behind the goals for a few games back then, I can attest that the fans used to flinch when he wound up too. There was a different atmosphere when hull came down the wing than any other player.

Interesting uniforms for the bruins tonight think they look fine except for the white piece from the back collar partway down the back. Looks like the old sleeveless t-shirt.

Edit: my bad...they were the warmup unis.

Saw stuff back then, too. OCD can help athletes develop their skills. NBA guy Chris Jackson - later changed to a Muslim name that escapes me right now - had serious OCD. He couldn't leave the gym until he made x number of shots in a row. Turned into a great shooter.
