Talk of not worrying about drafting high this year because Strome panned out is like the worst spin ever.
Strome fixed the Schmaltz problem, so they are only now net positive in the 2C role.
Sorry - they shouldn't tinkle away a chance to add even more talent at ELC pricing for a vain struggle to get their heads handed to them in the first round of the playoffs.
Streak ends with Boston game. - Return of the Roar
The irony is the FO came out and said this is a playoff team when they fired Q, and i for one thought, yea bullpoop, and here they are winners of 7 straight.
The way they are competing, i can see them getting at least a loser point vs the Bruins.

What you are really wanting to do is trade Gus but the timing has to be right. I doubt the state of their defense corp is such that they trade him just to get the highest return- which you argue is right now
Possibly correct on that his value may not be higher later on. But I feel it is more important for success of team and ticket sales that he sticks around at least until summer. Preferably not dealt until a prospect shows he can step in. Usually when someone can take someone's job, trades follow. Do not see any kids ready yet - maybe next year.
Koekkoek doesn't count. I am already crossing fingers.he can become descent third pair and a bonus of better. It is the high offensive ceiling of Mitchell, Boqvist, Beaudin as well as Jokiharju we look to as difference makers. It is Galvas, Carlsson, Kyrs, Hillman, Gilbert whom also are pushing but not the electric talent that you plug in and it shines.
Whole lot of youth to work in. It takes two three years or more. Gus pribably still fetches a nice price even in two years and he is 29. We as fans have these great ideas. I learned none usually come to pass in one form or another.
So yes I really do believe that Gus will get traded just not right away.

the team was going to go into a winning streak at some point, with our without Q. Look at the rest of the league and the wild swings and streaks that teams have gone through. It's the nature of parity, long season, and timing. The question to ask is if it's sustainable or not. Honestly, the numbers suggest it's not and a streak going the other could be coming soon. Poor defense, 40+ shots on goal nightly eventually will catch up to them you'd think. |

They are playing against equivalently bad teams. When they play true contenders again they will be exposed.
Plus, no matter how the standings look today, there are like seven teams that could squeak in for that last spot. The Hawks aren't really in much control of their own destiny.
Four points out of the wild card, four points out of the cellar, and the most goals against in the entire league. They had to win seven in a row just to get where they are now. Odds are not in their favor at all. |

Who is this guys agent? Isn't he just a bigger version of Shaw? - nickmo2699
He's one of the "prized" free agents out there... Size and skill who might be like Clarkson or Lucic once he hits the pay dirt. BINGO! can comment best about his skill set since I'm not familar with the Canes and didn't watch the Flames. |

And both not ideally suited for permanent 1st line duty, but talented enough to play up when needed. |

Nice troll. Caggiula has been outstanding since getting here. He has been playing PK a lot too. For a guy who is a "train wreck in his own zone", his play on the PK has been quite the revelation. He brings energy and grit to a team that otherwise lacks it. Hawks fans couldn't be happier that we got a player who can skate an actual NHL shift for a plug. Go away and focus on your joke of a team, where the only thing missing is a laugh track. - kwolf68

The dominos will start to fall once Duchene and Stone are traded, and Columbus decides what they want to do with Panarin and Bob. Once this happens, the teams that "miss out" will be more willing to overpay to fill holes. |

Yep, and Edmonton is just as poopty without Drake as they were with him. That is just a really bad hockey team over there and Drake was the last of their problems. It was just an Oiler troll, which is odd considering the dumpster fire of an organization they have over there. Maybe trolling Hawks blogs is a way to take his mind of things. |

Hmm gonna be interesting to see if the Hawks continue to play well the rest of the year if Crow would be brought back to help. Then what do you do with your goalies? Ward and Delia has been playing very well during this recent stretch. Hard to see Ward getting traded or Delia sent down. Do the Hawks really carry 3 goalies and rotate them in case Crow has any set backs? Idk. This is gonna be EXTREMELY interesting to follow. - Savetheembers33
not complicated: ward has a NMC...not going anywhere; if crow comes back then delia goes to rockford
no not carrying 3 goalies; if crow has a setback they sit him and call delia back up...

Gotta give credit where credit is due for Stanley Bowman's work the last few months. Strome is a home run even if Perlini is a bust....if Perlini can learn to stay on his skates and grows a pair of cajones/work ethic, maybe his best trade since dumping Campbell's salary without giving up prospects.
Caggiulla has been a great adddition, but the irony in praising Bowman for unloading Brandon Manning and his awful contact is that Stan Bowman is the one who handed out that deal 7 months ago....still a nice move.
I love the Delia signing today, as well. Hawks could potentially have a #1 Goalie for league minimum salary....
I made the suggestion of "Buy Low" on players similar to Strome, CooCoo, Perlini, like Ivan Provorov. High draft picks with Talent that have not put it together yet in the NHL. I think StanBo should be on the phone with EDM about Pulljujarvi. I love Caggiulla, but I think Pulljujarvi's size and shot with Toews/Kane could be just what the doctor ordered. Any other suggestions on "buy-low" youngsters that fit this bill? |

I would agree with Laz had we not given up Schmaltz in that deal which still could end up being a wash.
Schmaltz is a good player and I for one will not pile on with the rest of the fans in knocking him. - 67hawks
I tended to give Schmaltz the benefit of the doubt, and thought he could really become a great player because of his, speed, passing ability and d.
But to look at Strome now here, that isn't even close to being a wash. |

All part of his plan, Stan is thinking so many moves ahead that he knew, he just knew, that he could turn Manning into Caggiula. |

I agree. Most goals against, 2nd for most shots against.
Since JC has taken over the GA are dropping
The PP has gotten significantly better
Now we have secondary scoring line
We've had new additions to defense Koekkoek, Murphy and Dahlstrom
It's really not the same team from 2018 |

Remind me who won that game?
Shots are not necessarily an indication of overall play. I only caught a portion of the game, but a lot of Leafs shots came from the perimeter. They had 23 PP shots on 4 PP's. Nice game for a goalie who has a .903 save percentage and a GAA over 3. - TheTrob
Total shots aren't but shots/game vs shots given up is usually a good indicator of a good team vs bad.
Toronto is a good team and new york isn't which is pretty accurate matches those tends, reflected in the standings and an outlier due to puck luck and getting goalied happen.

Buffalo and Vancouver are currently below the playoff cut. So maybe not ‘bad’, but certainly in the lower half of the league, so they aren’t ‘good’ |

Toronto has a negative shot differential and is right near the bottom 5 in shot against per game. |
